Don't Back Down, We Need To Be in Solidarity Now More than Ever Despite the frankly disgusting decision by the DNR to permit a new section of the Line 5 pipeline, many organizations are ready to respond and fight. Midwest Environmental Advocates is currently providing legal representation to several organizations working to stop new construction on Line 5: League of Women Voters of WI, 350 Wisconsin and Sierra Club – Wisconsin Chapter. We must stop this dangerous and destructive pipeline, everyone is needed, the entire Great Lakes region depends on it. If you can support monetarily, here are two entities you can send funds to: https://lnkd.in/g2rY6j8T https://lnkd.in/gvgktBhj

In 2015, the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group, The Nature Conservancy (Australia) and Kilter Rural, launched the Murray-Darling Basin Balanced Water Fund, the first investment vehicle in Australia to provide investors with the opportunity to achieve multiple objectives of securing water for agriculture, realising a financial return and restoring threatened wetlands. Below on the Riverspace site, you can see the wetlands and projects supported by donations of water we are managing in collaboration with many community and government organisations. The estimated 30,000 wetlands within the Murray-Darling Basin are highly diverse, ranging from vast floodplains, billabongs, and swamps to smaller wetlands and streams. The wetlands are home to a wide variety of plants and animals, including several threatened and endangered species. Please take a moment to consider making a donation that will go towards restoration and protection of our wetlands. https://lnkd.in/g_ZvcV_U

As we reflect on 2024, we’re filled with gratitude for the incredible work our team and volunteers have accomplished with the support of our fantastic #donors. Together we’ve made significant strides for the Severn River this year, and bigger and better things are on the way in 2025. With you, we #ConnectRestoreProtect. Connect: - Inspired Future Generations: We provided on-the-water experiences for 54 students, fostering a love for the environment and inspiring future stewards. - Empowered #Volunteers: 63 volunteers helped with #waterqualitymonitoring and over 180 volunteers dedicated their time to removing #invasivespecies and cleaning up litter, saving 187 trees and removing over 7,500 pounds of garbage. - Strengthened Our Support: We welcomed 129 new private donors, whose generosity fuels our progress. - Engaged our #Community: We reached over 1,100 new followers on #socialmedia, providing updates, educational content, and inspiring stories. - #Educated Our Community: We hosted the John Wright Speaker Series, educating 331 attendees about critical #environmentalissues. Additionally, we presented to 498 community members on specific concerns related to the Severn River. Restore: - #OysterRestoration: We planted 12.5 million oysters on our Traces Hollow 2a sanctuary reef and over 1 million one-year-old oysters grown by our 304 volunteer oyster growers. - Innovative Solutions: We developed a groundbreaking mechanism for directly setting oyster larvae on a #oysterreef, a more efficient and effective method for restoration than spat-on-shell. -Secured #Funding: We secured $764,304 in grant funding to support restoration projects and watershed planning. -Building #Partnerships: We formed a powerful coalition to advocate for the Severn River's inclusion in the #WholeWatershedAct, which could bring significant funding and resources to our river. - Addressing #Pollution: We engaged an expert consultant to develop a strategy for addressing #septicsystempollution using permeable reactive barriers. Protect: - Championing #EnvironmentalLegislation: We successfully advocated for a new state law banning the sale of invasive plant species, protecting our #forests and #waterways. - Advocating for #WatershedProtection: We continued our #advocacy for the Whole Watershed Act, which will provide critical funding for #restoration and #conservation efforts. - Empowering Community Members: We assisted residents in the County’s comprehensive #rezoning process to safeguard environmentally sensitive lands. Your support has been instrumental in achieving these #milestones. Together we will continue to make a positive impact on the Severn River and in its surrounding communities. Thank you for being a part of our journey. https://lnkd.in/eJJXXfAk

A Battle Against Trash: Can 13 Teams Conquer 100,000 Pounds in the Southeast? On September 7th, a green army of volunteers will wage war against a silent enemy: the relentless tide of trash that threatens to engulf our National Forests. Armed with gloves, bags, and an unyielding spirit, they'll embark on a mission to reclaim over 150 miles of trails and campsites across 10 states. This is the 3rd annual "Sweep Up the Southeast," a bold initiative led by the Venture Unknown Foundation (VUF). Since 2023, they've already liberated over 70,000 pounds of litter from nature's embrace. But this year, the stakes are higher than ever. VUF Chairman Sean Clark emphasizes the deeper purpose behind their efforts: "We’re committed to improving public lands in our National Forests through action... Our goal is to foster collaboration and education to protect our public lands.” 13 teams, spread across 12 National Forests, will face a daunting challenge: to remove a staggering 100,000 pounds of debris. The task is immense, but their resolve is unwavering. Every rusted can, every discarded tire, every shard of plastic represents a victory in this fight for preservation. It's a testament to the power of community, the strength of shared purpose. Will they triumph? Will they reach their ambitious goal? Tell us inspiring stories about causes that are worth sharing. We are a film studio committed to sharing the stories and purpose of great causes. Share your story with us and we might highlight your nonprofit or noble cause in our next post! #Conservation #PublicLands #Volunteerism #Nonprofit #ClimateChange

This week on the banks of the Rio Grande, 52 new state, local, non-profit, and business organizations committed to advancing the America the Beautiful Freshwater Challenge, which sets goals to protect, restore, and reconnect eight million acres of wetlands and 100,000 miles of America’s river and streams by 2030. Trout Unlimited was an inaugural member of the challenge, and Dan Roper, TU’s New Mexico state lead, joined Brenda Mallory, chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, in welcoming the new members, among them the state of New Mexico. More than 160 state and local governments, tribal entities, nonprofits, and businesses have committed to advancing policies and strategies for conserving and restoring the nation’s freshwater systems. It was fitting that the announcement was in New Mexico, where we need for better protections for the state’s rivers and wetlands following a recent Supreme Court ruling reversing longstanding national Clean Water Act protections. Some of the state’s most popular trout waters are at risk as a result.

🌱 How We Can Help Rosebud Continuum Rebuild After Hurricane Milton 🌱 Like many in the Pasco County community, ROSEBUD CONTINUUM was hit hard by Hurricane Milton. In addition to the loss of 20 trees, their 2,500-square-foot greenhouse was completely destroyed. Despite the challenges, their commitment to sustainability education and community engagement remains as strong as ever. 💡 What Makes Rosebud Special: Rosebud Continuum is a beacon of innovation in sustainability education, with composting stations like: Biodigesters for turning food waste into energy. Compost Barrels for creating nutrient-rich soil. Textile Composting to repurpose old fabrics. 🚨 How You Can Help: Rosebud has launched a GoFundMe to rebuild and restore its facilities. Contributions will go toward clearing debris, rebuilding the greenhouse, and restoring their educational programs. Let’s help this amazing organization get back to what it does best: teaching the world how small, sustainable actions can make a huge difference. 💚 #Sustainability #MakeCompostingMainstream #CommunitySupport #30C
