December 3rd isn't just a date on the calendar—it’s a powerful reminder of our shared commitment to promoting a world that celebrates diversity and ensures equity. International Day of Persons with Disabilities, proclaimed by the United Nations in 1992, is a day to spotlight the rights, dignity, and potential of persons with disabilities while engaging with policymakers for their integration into every aspect of social, economic, and cultural life. Despite significant strides toward inclusion, barriers persist. For many persons with disabilities, life remains a battle against systemic obstacles like inaccessible infrastructure, inadequate educational systems, poverty, and limited employment opportunities. These challenges ripple through their lives, often leading to social exclusion, financial hardship, and compromised physical and mental health. But there’s hope. When we create environments—be it in workplaces, schools, or communities—that are inclusive by design, we not only remove barriers but also unlock the potential for everyone to thrive. This video shows a woman in a wheelchair navigating through her hotel room while explaining how various features of an accessible room are still not accessible for wheelchair users. Accessible hotel rooms often require additional adaptations and adjustments to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. This issue will not be fixed until hotels start consulting with people in wheelchairs to better understand and address accessibility needs. We received approval to post this video with the aim of raising awareness about the creator and the important topics they discuss. One week ago, I conducted and submitted a final report to #ELDA on #physicalenvironmentaccessibilityaudit and #organizationalinclusivenessaudit regarding persons with disabilities participation in #Ethiopia's #political parties movement from the perspective of parties' practice and their offices' physical accessibility. Seeing political parties' movements from the lens of disability inclusion is unusual in #Ethiopia and has not been given much attention. However, among the few effective means of disability inclusion strategy; persons with disabilities melty sectoral challenges and barriers could be resolved with the active movement of parties in disability advocacy work and forefront participation of #citizenswithdisabilities in the area. In this regard; I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to #ELDA for its pioneer initiative and voluntarily involved political parties including #EZEMA and #Enat parties' collaborative support in my data collection and analysis process.

I am happy to share that I attended the national-level webinar on “Disability Rights and Status of India, Policy & Programs” organized by NIEPMD and approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. This insightful session highlighted the evolving landscape of disability rights in India, emphasizing the importance of inclusive policies that empower individuals with disabilities. Some key takeaways include: • Understanding Legal Frameworks: A deep dive into the various laws and policies designed to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities in India. • Policy Implementation Challenges: A closer look at the gaps between policy and practice, and the need for robust mechanisms to ensure effective implementation. • Advocacy and Awareness: The vital role of advocacy in creating a more inclusive society and the importance of awareness campaigns to change societal attitudes. • Collaboration for Change: The necessity of multi-sectoral collaboration, including government, NGOs, and the private sector, to drive meaningful change. This experience has reinforced my commitment to advocating for disability rights and working towards a more equitable and inclusive society.
