It’s amazing how complicated hiring is internationally. Not just with full-time employees, but contractors as well. You gotta set up contracts (that follow that country’s employment laws) Make sure you have their paperwork (that their country or state requires) Figure out how to pay them (on time, accurately, & in their currency) Add in benefits as desired (or as required) And make sure your international contractors aren't working in a way that would get them classified as full-time employees in their specific country (because that could be up to 3x their comp in compliance penalties) Honestly, that makes me appreciate more what we do at Deel - having one platform that handles all these is huge. What else am I missing? #hr #hiring #sdr #sales

Who else thinks it should be illegal for companies to keep hiring temporary workers for 3 to 6 months, letting them go, and then hiring more temps to come work for another 3 to 6 months? Should it also be illegal that a company who wants to hire temp to perm should not add an additional 30-90 days probation before receiving benefits once hired directly? wasn't their probation time the temp work they performed for the company during those first 3 or so months? The company sees their performance otherwise they wouldn't have hired them correct?

My father was a toolmaker. The government’s proposals to give workers full employment rights from day one have a major flaw – they could potentially undermine the ability of employers to put in place a probationary period while they assess new hires. That would be a big mistake. Probationary periods are a vital opportunity for both employers and employees to ‘suck it and see’ before taking things further. They are an essential way of ensuring that there is a good fit between both sides by providing some breathing space to test out the relationship before fully committing to it. Getting rid of probationary periods would make businesses reluctant to hire new people and would also slow down the process of creating great teams full of competent, motivated people. It would also encourage useless employees to stick around and dig in, with all the disruption to an existing team that would entail, when it might have been better for them to leave and seek more appropriate employment elsewhere. The fact is that for an employer hiring people is a high-risk activity because you can never truly know how someone will perform in a role until they actually start doing it. CVs, interviews and even psychometric testing will only ever give you a partial impression of a person, so a lot has to be taken on trust. I know from my long experience as an employer that around 50% of the people you hire just don’t work out; not because the employer is doing anything wrong, but because the relationship simply doesn’t gel, or because the employee turns out to be lazy, to have oversold their abilities or indeed simply lied to get the job. Making it difficult for employers to get rid of useless and disruptive employees in the first few months of hiring them, or forcing them to pay them three months wages to do so, effectively makes businesses take on the role of the State and provide social security for people who are no good at their job. And that's no good for anyone. Of course work colleagues must always be fairly treated, but if the government is really serious about growing the economy then it must also be careful to ensure that it does not inadvertently put hurdles in the way of employers who want to hire new people and expand their businesses. Small companies can hardly afford any more cost or time consuming regulation. If that happens, we will ultimately all suffer, toolmaker or not.

⚖️ Handling Employee Terminations Legally & Compassionately ❤️ Terminating an employee is never easy, but doing it the right way protects your business and shows respect for the individual. Here's how to balance legal compliance with compassion: 1️⃣ Know the Law: Ensure you're following all employment laws, including proper notice, severance (if required), and documenting the reasons for termination. 2️⃣ Clear Communication: Be direct but empathetic. Explain the reason for the decision while offering support. It’s a difficult moment, and how you communicate makes all the difference. 3️⃣ Plan for the Transition: Offer assistance with the transition, such as outplacement services or references, to help them land on their feet. 4️⃣ Confidentiality: Keep the conversation private and respectful to maintain the dignity of the individual. A compassionate approach not only protects your company legally but also helps maintain morale among the remaining employees. If you need more tips or guidance on managing terminations, reach out to us at Demerara HR Consulting at info@demerara-hr.com. #hrconsulting #employeeterminations #legalcompliance #compassionateleadership #workplaceculture #SmallBusinessHR #HRStrategy #EmployeeWellbeing #hr #peopleandculture #hrlife #hrcommunity #employeerelations #business #freelance #consulting #hrstrategy #leadership
