I can’t understand why trees aren’t prioritized in every urban development project. They’re not just decoration—they’re a critical part of creating healthy, thriving communities. The science is clear: communities with more trees have lower incidences of illness, reduced violence, and stronger connections among neighbors. Trees cool our cities, filter the air we breathe, and provide homes for wildlife. They enhance mental health, reduce stress, and create spaces where people want to gather. When we design cities without prioritizing trees, we’re missing an opportunity to build environments that truly support people and the environment. #sustainability #designingwithnature #trees #healthycities

As our sector moves through an 'industrial' decarbonisation 🏭 programme, it's crucial to ensure our decisions today positively impact future living conditions & health. Climate change is real, and this case study from Healthy Homes Hub highlights its potential impact on our residents. In July 2022, the UK recorded temperatures of ☀ 40°C, a sign of increasingly frequent and severe heatwaves. Livv Housing Group, in partnership with Map Impact, is leading efforts to mitigate the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. By using satellite data 🛰, they've identified that 5% of their homes are at "very high risk" of overheating. This data helped Livv prioritise interventions to enhance energy efficiency and reduce heat vulnerability, creating healthier living environments. Sector focus must expand beyond energy efficiency and decarbonisation to address extreme heat challenges. Integrating green infrastructure 🏘 has proven to mitigate the UHI effect, cooling urban areas and improving residents' health & well-being. The investments we make today in data driven solutions and green infrastructure will safeguard the health and comfort of future generations. By staying informed and understanding all the systems in play, we can ensure that our homes remain safe havens in a changing climate, benefiting both our residents and the environment. data > insight > action Read the full case study below! 👇 Gavin Roberts Paul Mullane Sam Scott Debbie Trust-Dickinson John Perrian Graham DeAth Daire Cantillon Chris Gorse Ben Roberts Martyn Stones Prof Richard Harding Georgina Patel
