In the upcoming fiscal year, the U.S. Army is set to prioritize the development of advanced decoy and obfuscation technologies to effectively camouflage its forces' electromagnetic spectrum footprint, as stated by Maj. Gen. Paul Stanton of the Cyber Center of Excellence. This initiative is a direct response to the tactical vulnerabilities exposed by Russia's actions in Ukraine, highlighting the critical need for units to mask their electronic emissions to evade detection and targeting by adversaries. The Army plans to enhance its electronic warfare capabilities through investments in programs like the Spectrum Situational Awareness System (S2AS), aiming to provide troops with real-time insights into their electronic signature and potential electromagnetic interference. Additionally, promising technologies being explored, such as MAGPIE and the Modular Electromagnetic Spectrum System (MEMSS), focus on deceiving enemy surveillance by replicating or altering the Army's radio frequency signatures, ultimately aiming to ensure command post survivability and enable forces to "hide in plain sight." #militaryinnovation #cyberwarfare #electronicwarfare #decoytechnology #obfuscationtactics #spectrumsecurity #armytech #futurewarfare #signalsecurity #defensetech Source- https://lnkd.in/gFFFcyMc

US military tilts towards Open RAN and public macro networks The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has issued a strategy document setting out requirements for private 5G at military installations that may have some impact for enterprises more generally. The two key points are that both Open RAN and use of public macro 5G networks are strongly favored which could set the tone for further such deployments for US enterprises. Such reasons not surprisingly revolve around security for highly sensitive and classified applications, where dedicated private 5G might be preferred, although even then public networks should be in the frame. The relationship between security and Open RAN is more nuanced, with pros and cons on either side. #5G #OpenRAN #networks
