Several states have enacted laws to enable community solar programs and require utilities to incorporate them into their energy portfolios. Some states mandate specific community solar installation targets with set deadlines, while others provide funding for these projects. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory's January 2022 data shows that over 70% of U.S. community solar capacity is concentrated in Florida, Minnesota, New York, and Massachusetts. Notably, significant community solar development has occurred in states like Florida, where no related legislation exists, driven by utilities and power cooperatives independently. The sector's rapid growth in the past two years suggests that these figures have likely changed (CNet). Not always the easiest projects due to grading but a great use case for solar.

  On Thursday, August 29th, Federal Land Mangers revealed an updated solar energy development roadmap where approximately 32 million acres of federal lands will be available for the use of utility-scale solar projects. The following proposal by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management is known as Western Solar Plan. The available land outlined in the Western Solar Plan includes the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Among the 11 western states, the proposal will primarily focus on installing utility solar projects within Nevada and Utah. Under the Western Solar Plan, planned solar projects will be encouraged to develop the projects within a 15 miles distance of existing or planned transmission lines or energy corridors, such as the Greenlink North Transmission Project.
