Excited to attend today’s HDTC Job Fair, hosted by DBEDT, the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii. 10a-2p Entrepreneurs Sandbox FREE. With so many attendees home for the holidays, it’s inspiring to see the volunteers for our Rapid Resume Review and see the Chamber’s Kamaʻāina Come Home engineering initiative in action. As someone passionate about bringing local talent back to the islands, I’m thrilled to meet individuals who are exploring ways to contribute their skills to Hawaii’s future. But it raises an important question: why aren’t more companies investing in building teams here in Hawaii? We have an incredibly rich and diverse talent pool. If individuals like Mark Zuckerberg can buy hundreds of acres of land in Hawaii, why not also staff hundreds of roles to support operations here? It’s time for businesses to look beyond the land and see the true value of investing in the people of Hawaii. Let’s create opportunities that allow kamaʻāina to thrive and stay connected to the place they call home. What steps do you think we can take to encourage more US global and domestic companies to invest in Hawaii’s workforce?

Ally Behavior Centers shared a great strategy at the university career fair: Instead of applying to countless jobs randomly, focus on companies you genuinely want to work for. By connecting with alumni on LinkedIn and your university’s alumni portal, you can learn more about the company culture and the role you're interested in. These connections can help you get in touch with hiring managers, giving your resume a better chance of being reviewed by decision-makers, rather than just being filtered through an online portal.
