Plant Manager | Operations Manager | General Manager | Automotive Tier 1 | MBA Bilingual | I help manufacturing companies on plant startups, operational turnarounds, and attainment of quality certifications.

A Leap into the Unknown: Embracing a Challenging Project in Machining A little over 16 years ago, I received an invitation to lead a project of paramount importance in the machining area, a field I was far from mastering. The project involved spearheading a team of three Project Managers to invest USD 23 million in modifying three major machining lines to produce new machined components for the next generation of diesel engines with lower emission levels. This transformative shift, which I accepted without hesitation, meant stepping completely out of my comfort zone, leaving behind an area where I had years of experience. The skills they saw in me to entrust me with this great challenge were my experience managing projects, my experience managing budgets, and the way I had efficiently led work teams in other areas. The main challenges I faced were the lack of technical knowledge of the machining processes themselves and aligning the project's needs with production requirements, as the modifications to the manufacturing lines were to be carried out with minimal downtime. Two years later, numerous machines, including machining centers, gantries, washers, assemblers, and test cells, were acquired, installed, tested and started up, successfully meeting the divisional program milestones. As I mentioned earlier, accepting this challenge meant stepping out of my comfort zone. Over the months, I developed the required technical knowledge and was able to demonstrate that my style of managing work teams was also effective in another area and earned the recognition of machining leaders in the plant. However, most importantly, I discovered that working directly in manufacturing was something that would become my passion, where I would like to continue my professional career, and in which I have reached positions of much greater responsibility, never forgetting all the support and teachings I received from my colleagues. #comfortzone #leadership #management #machining

Fuerte Abrazo!
