As a #veteran I know many fellow veterans that struggle with mental health. As a #drone enthusiasts and avid pilot, I don't think think it's discussed enough how drones can be used in a therapeutic manner. Drones can be utilized by veterans to provide them with an escape, a way to relax, and a means to see life from a unique perspective. This can be a life saving tool, trust me, I know. This weighs heavy on me and if there's any veterans that want to link up and fly when I roll through your town, please reach out. For this use case, NDAA nor blue/green list are necessary as it's simply a veteran and/or group of veterans just getting together, sharing stories, learning, growing, and flying. We just want to meet up, fly, and have a good time. Not secure a government contract. Thus, we need the platforms that'll be easy, fun to fly, and reliable. PREMATURE RELEASE Circa 1987/88 It is a big embarrassing problem, especially when you're a cool macho air force fella with wings on your chest. At the drop zone, we are required to set up a Tango sign made up of pink luminous panels in the shape of a "T" for the chaps onboard the aircraft to use as a guide. It was just another routine drop in Clark. I was on duty that day & we waited for the squawk on the signal set, letting us know that Charlie was on the way. Against the cloudless blue sky, we could just about make out a tiny silhouette headed our way though it seemed to be just slightly off course from the usual route. Then way before it even reached us, 16 parachutes were unloaded out the ramp door. The American pathfinders in their distinctive grey tees & cherry pink berets fired up their humvees & frantically raced off in the direction of deployment. Everyone was baffled. The riggers were baffled. The pathfinders were baffled. The guy in the saddle was baffled. Probably even the horsey was baffled. Minutes later, a land rover came bouncing round & picked everyone up. Rocky (he preferred to be called just Rocky without the Sgt) was cursing under his breath in language not suitable for LinkedIn. Apparently, some smart fellas in the village running parallel to the drop zone had set up their own DZ markers & fooled the distracted aircrew into prematurely releasing the entire load over the fence separating us & them. Fortunately, this was not one of our Singapore flights or there would have been an international outcry. A bit of good news for us as it meant mission was cancelled that day. The villagers were definitely not out crying. After expertly recovering all the equipment like expert riggers, it was brought to Dau, a small township a bit further outside the base where it went on sale. A massively bigger version of our now defunct Sungei Road, you could find everything here, from puppies to parachutes. You can just imagine the C130 pilot haggling for a discount in the best Tagalog he could muster.
