This week, our CEO Guru Sethupathy joined the #dgiq / #aigov keynote panel on AI Governance. Thank you to DATAVERSITY for featuring such an important topic! And thank you Johna Till Johnson, William A. Tanenbaum, Roslyn Docktor, John Hearty, and Alexandre t'Kint for the tremendous conversations. Key themes for those not able to attend: ➡️ AI Governance has 3 dimensions: - What (goal of governance, including reg compliance) - How (policies, procedures, controls) - Whom (roles and responsibilities) ➡️ Governance done well reduces risk while helping to build trust and increase adoption. ➡️ Regulations should be at the product level or domain/industry/function level, closer to the actual use case. Regulatory experimentation and flexibility will be important as AI changes in ways we can't predict. ➡️ For those building AI Governance Councils -- keep things small. Ideally 3-5 members from the Business, AI/Tech, Data, Risk, compliance/legal with a single, clear accountable lead. This helps organizations maintain agility. #datagovernance #aigovernance

🔍 Understanding the EU AI Act: The Importance of Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments (FRIA) 🔍 What is a FRIA? A FRIA is essential for ensuring that AI systems uphold fundamental rights such as human dignity and non-discrimination. Before deploying high-risk AI systems, organizations must assess potential impacts on individual rights and implement measures to mitigate any identified risks. Key Points to Consider: 1. Scope: The FRIA applies to public bodies and private entities providing public services, particularly for high-risk AI systems related to critical infrastructure, creditworthiness, and insurance. 2. Process: Conduct a FRIA before the AI system's first use, update it regularly, and document the process. If both a FRIA and a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) are required, they can be combined. 3. Notification: Results must be reported to market surveillance authorities using a designated template. Why It Matters: FRIAs help organizations proactively address fundamental rights concerns, especially in sensitive sectors like healthcare, finance, and insurance. They reflect the growing need for rigorous assessments of both privacy and broader human rights impacts. #AI #EUAIAct #FRIA #DataProtection #Compliance #Regulation #AIethics

Forrester's 2025 Predictions: The Rising Risk of AI Regulation In its report, Predictions 2025: Trust, Forrester predicts a 21% surge in genAI-related regulatory investigations and litigations in the next year. Enforcement actions, like those tied to the EU AI Act or FTC probes into major players, are set to erode trust across entire ecosystems. Companies overly reliant on third parties for data collection and tracking are especially vulnerable. At MetaRouter, we help businesses eliminate their reliance on third-party solutions, ensuring they retain full ownership and control over their customer data. By enabling server-side data collection on private infrastructure, MetaRouter ensures your data remains secure, compliant, and unaffected by third-party risks. As the regulatory landscape tightens, trust, transparency, and compliance will define competitive advantage for enterprises. We've been saying this at MetaRouter since Day 1! 👏 A recent 2024 Prevalent - Third-Party Risk Management revealed that 61% of companies have experienced third-party data breaches over the past year—a 49% increase from 2023 and three times higher than in 2021. So my suggestion for 2025 a new year's resolution: eliminate your reliance on third-parties for customer data collection, tracking, and integration 🙏 Next week, Neill Brookman will be speaking with expert analyst from Forrester, Enza Iannopollo on this exact topic! I spent much of this week discussing tech, specifically AI, at The Age of AI Pharma event and Collision Conf. I came away excited and optimistic, but also with many questions and concerns about regulation, such as privacy, antitrust, data security, and transparency. It’s clear that tech companies will always prioritize profit for their owners and shareholders. And if you ever had any doubts, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told some shareholders this week what we knew was coming: the company is considering changing its governance structure to a for-profit business that the firm's nonprofit board doesn't control. Quite a revelation! So our hope for establishing regulatory guardrails lies with government, but according to the 2024 Edelman Trust Barometer, most of us don’t have much confidence in it. This skepticism is validated by the numerous instances big tech has been summoned before Congress in the US (a performative circus), contrasted with minimal, if any, legislative outcomes. So, the question remains: Are we intelligent enough to manage the intelligence we create? 🧠 #AI #TechRegulation #Privacy #Antitrust #AgeofAI #CollisionConf #FutureOfAI #EdelmanTrustInstitute
