They usually do the year summary between Jan 1-10 but for now, they are focused on: 🎁 Post-Holiday Clearance (January-February): After the holiday rush, retailers often focus on clearing out unsold inventory, offering discounts on winter apparel and holiday-themed items. 🗠 Pre-Season Stocking ( January -March): Retailers prepare for upcoming seasons by stocking items across all categories. 📍The important part here is that for pre-season stocking they are starting to look into new brands during Nov-Dec. That's a good time to apply your brand to retail buyers.

A timely follow-up to yesterday's post on Dollar General's assortment initiative, today's The Wall Street Journal article confirms more retailers and brands are also reviewing and rationalizing their assortments. Some of this is to curtail inventories, while some of it is simply overdue assortment management. Seasonal and annual assortment strategies should continuously review trends, revenue/margin, and store/channel assortment goals, and plan the the SKU breadth and depth appropriately. Some retailers let the SKU count expand a bit in hopes it will drive revenue, while others lack the appropriate processes and tools. Sometimes less is more. #assortment #planning #inventorymanagement
