As purpose continues to reshape capitalism, businesses need clear methods to demonstrate their impact—and we’ve found immense value in B Corp certification: https://bit.ly/4c1YgyQ While Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) metrics share similarities with B Corp requirements, there are key differences: 💡 ESG metrics are largely unregulated, and focused on measuring risk exposure (coming from the financial world). And greenwashing often comes with the territory, unfortunately. 💡B Corp certification, which is rigorous—and third-party verified by non-profit group B Lab—flips the script with a proactive approach, asking, “What are the opportunities to be a better business—to be a better corporate citizen?’” For Genus, B Corp certification has become an essential tool in creating clarity for our clients that we’re among the vanguard of social purpose businesses. It's great to see increased focus on the S of ESG! The Sustainable Philanthropy Framework by NCSS and NVPC is a good start - measure your volunteering, donations, hiring, etc. But it's a pity that the article didn't really go deeper into the metrics for S, e.g. the interesting research currently being done on SROI, and how companies and foundations may also want to start thinking about measuring their social impact in quantitative ways, not just qualitative reporting. Ideally we can move towards a single indicator in future - like GHG emissions. I know many companies have asked if there is something like that for their ESG reporting. Maybe S can also be measured through Scope 1/2/3?! S 1 - the social impact you created directly (e.g. through hiring) S 2 - when you give time and money to other organisations to support their impact S 3 - social impact on the families and larger community of the persons impacted! 😎
Time for more professionalism in the ‘S’ of ESG

ESG serves as a vital framework for assessing how businesses manage their operations in key areas: Environmental (E): We evaluate how companies address carbon emissions, climate change policies, and energy efficiency. Our focus includes resource use efficiency, waste management practices, and initiatives for pollution control. Thank you B Lab UK for capturing my talking points during my session on how #diversityandbelonging and #esg are interlinked. If you wish to learn more about how to integrate these two disiplines into your company's DNA then do DM me anytime. #bcorp #esgreporting #stakeholderengagement
In today's dynamic business environment, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (DEB) are essential drivers of sustainable growth and innovation. 🌱 While many organisations approach ESG and DEB separately, when combined, they create a powerful synergy that can transform the future of responsible business practices. Research shows that businesses that fully integrate both ESG and DEB are better equipped to tackle the challenges of tomorrow, all while fostering long-term value and resilience. Here’s what we learnt during Gihan Hyde, founder and CEO of #BCorp Communique| B.Corp's, sessions on this topic at Louder Than Words.
