Meet Emily Bell, LMFT, Evolve’s Associate Clinical Director in the East Bay. Emily has been with Evolve for over 4.5 years, starting as a Residential Counselor and working through roles as a Primary Therapist, Remote Float Therapist, and now leading as Associate Clinical Director. She’s passionate about the work she does with her team—describing them as supportive, driven, and energizing! And of course, she loves working with the teens, who keep her laughing with their funny and goofy personalities. Her clinical approach is skills-driven, authentic, and playful, with a sprinkle of stoicism. One thing she wants all clients to leave treatment believing is, “I can do hard things!” When she’s not working, you can find Emily training for her first half-marathon, hitting the slopes in winter, or listening to audiobooks (like the Outlander series) while diving into her favorite hobbies like macrame, film photography, and other “crafty things.” #mentalhealthcounseling #teenmentalhealth #teenprograms #teentherapist

As I age, and mature, I realize day-in and day-out that I’ll forever commit to life-long learning and growing. Knowledge may not HAVE the power it once did, but knowledge opens perspective and understanding to fulfill the one life we get. I use to HATE reading - books, textbooks, articles, ect. Today, I love reading. First, medical publications for work, then audiobooks, now books of all sorts. I read publications, articles, and literature to grow my knowledge to be the best healthcare professional I can be. I read books of fiction and story to entertain myself and relax. I read for facts and modern topics to build my opinions and values. I hope one day to read a publication in a journal with my name as the author. I always thought reading was a right, but I realize it truly is a privilege. It’s a privilege to learn, grow, and express ourselves as humans. I’d be wrong if I did not thank my amazing wife for sparking my interest in reading in all forms. Read for fun. Read to learn. Read to grow. Read to be a human.

I was diagnosed with dyslexia and Irlen Syndrome at 11. I was extremely lucky (and grateful) to be diagnosed so early. But let’s be real: sometimes, reading is like trying to defrost my brain in a fridge full of words. So here’s what has helped me (and could help you support your dyslexic teammates too): • Provide Audio and Visual Options → Audiobooks, podcasts, and speech-to-text tools are game-changers. • Prioritise Task Management and Organisation → Project management tools like Trello or Asana make tasks visual and manageable. Give Them Time to Prepare → Extra prep time for meetings helps reduce anxiety. Let’s face it, nobody wants to wing it while their brain is still buffering! • Be Flexible with Work Styles → Give extra time for reading and encourage breaks to reduce eye strain. I can assure you the time will be made back on other cognitive tasks. Small changes make a massive difference. Because when we create spaces for every kind of brain to thrive… That’s where the real magic happen. (Thanks Manchester for the hook inspiration 💡)

"Living in the future...#SethGodin🌟🌐🌍🌐🌟 In a bad 1950s science fiction movie, you might see flying jetpacks, invisibility cloaks and ray guns. What we got instead is a device that fits in our pocket. It allows us to connect to more than a billion people. It knows where we are and where we’re going. It has all of our contacts, the sum total of all published knowledge, an artificially intelligent computer that can understand and speak in our language, one of the best cameras ever developed, a video camera with editor, a universal translator and a system that can measure our heart rate. We can look up real time pricing and inventory data, listen to trained actors read us audiobooks and identify any song, any plant or any bird. We can see the reviews from our community of nearby restaurants or even the reputation of a doctor or lawyer. It can track the location of our loved ones and call us a chauffeured vehicle at the touch of a button. And of course, we use it to have arguments. And to watch very short stupid videos...#SethsBlog 📷™️.

Dear readers, Happy festive season! I trust this message finds you well. When I announced the upcoming release of Cortisol Clarity on January 1, 2025, your responses deeply touched me. Many of you expressed excitement and joined as beta readers, providing valuable feedback to shape this book. Some of you, especially older readers with vision challenges, reached out with a specific request: an audio version that would allow you to listen comfortably. This request resonated with me on a personal level. It reminded me that making information accessible is as important as knowledge itself. Inspired by your feedback, I dedicated two full days to preparing the manuscript for audio. With my usual publishing team on holiday, I used Google’s advanced tools to create a professional-quality audiobook. Google’s technologies, like Note Book education tools, have been invaluable to me in 2024 in creating interactive podcasts. Their state-of-the-art audiobook recording system allowed me to produce over six hours of book content efficiently and refine every detail to ensure it met the highest standards required by audiobook publishing companies. Hearing my words brought to life by a professional voice was a special moment. It made the ideas in this book feel even more real and personal. I am thrilled to share that the audio version of Cortisol Clarity is available now — four days before the digital and paperback releases. This is my New Year’s gift to you, accompanied by a special discount to make it more accessible. But why is this book so significant — for me and for society in 2025? Years ago, I faced my own challenges with cortisol dysregulation. Despite my expertise as a researcher and consultant in cognitive science and healthcare, I overlooked the signals my body was sending me. Here is my story today: https://lnkd.in/gKtyphSp Here is the link to the audiobook on Google Play: https://lnkd.in/g2ePVk9j

Can I transition from APIs to Audiobooks? In the past I've talked a bit about my interest in voice acting. At NextRoll I had the privilege of working with our multimedia team to provide voice-over work for some ads that went out, after narrating some Hackweek projects. I've heard "oh you'd be good at that", but never really put in the work to see how I'd fare in the market. But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense: 🎙 I love acting (done drama teams, local theater) and planned on trying to pursue it as a 2nd career much further down the road (really) 🎙 With my Multimedia degree, creative inclinations, and engineering experience, I could figure out the tools and optimizations I'd need to do to the audio itself. 🎙 I may not have that 1-in-a-million "made for radio" voice, but I think with the right amount of "post" it could work! I think I have a decent range and an ear for the inflection to do, which will help. The challenge: I'm starting from complete scratch. No knowledge, training, or agency representation. I'm buying a cheap thick rug and hanging material to soundproof my hallway, installing Davinci Resolve, and starting to go through the learning. We metaphorically eat elephants one bite at a time, and the next bite is soundproofing my area. Definitely still pursuing my normal line of engineering-related work, but I will fit this around that gig. Looking down the road, I am trying to expand the ways I can provide value, and this is an uncharted course I've wanted to explore. You never know until you try, right? #voiceover #voiceacting #davinciresolve

Gov. Newsom signed two laws that will protect actors from the Artificial Intelligence use of their voice and their likeness even after their death. Per his office, AB 2602 "requires contracts to specify the use of AI-generated digital replicas of a performer’s voice or likeness, and the performer must be professionally represented in negotiating the contract." And AB 1836 "prohibits commercial use of digital replicas of deceased performers in films, TV shows, video games, audiobooks, sound recordings and more, without first obtaining the consent of those performers’ estates." The production side of the industry fought against this legislation according to Politico. See the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gsQJ-N64

Self Care is a tool and should be treated as such. Here’s what I mean… We have to be real about the true function of self care. By making these tweaks to my self care routines, I was less disappointed by my self care and actually felt the residual effects (tempered stress, relaxation, etc). 3 areas I shifted: 🖍️ Adding in microbreaks into my daily routine made my self care more low stakes—higher reward. Having things like audiobooks, coloring, and my favorite snacks on hand made the act of self care less stressful as a whole. The reason why we want low lift self care is to get in the habit of practicing more frequently. Self care is about reps. ⁉️ I lowered the expectations of what self care would be in my life. Instead of using it as a way to cope, I started using self care more like a salve or a preventative tool. This led to having more intention and fair expectations. 💥Self care no longer became a stall tactic for the things I didn’t want to do. I didn’t make self care solely a reward but I did challenge myself to begin trying the avoided tasks before moving into self care acts. What’s a myth you might have about self care? I would love to know!
