Olympus Corporation has announced the launch of a new 4K camera head, CH-S700-08-LB, for endoscopic urology and gynaecology procedures in Europe. The camera head is compatible with the VISERA ELITE III video system centre for surgical endoscopy. The product is also set to be launched in Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore as soon as it is ready to comply with the regulations of each country, sequentially from September 2024. This will support high-quality diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases, including bladder cancer, by providing 'unprecedented' endoscopic image clarity according to Olympus. Through the launch of this product, Olympus says it aims to enhance the patient care pathway of early diagnosis, minimally invasive treatment, and follow-up for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, thereby improving the standard of care and patient outcomes. Abdominal surgery with the support of Impella (SURGELLA), a new frontier to be explored. "we can derive some key points that obviously deserve to be confirmed in a large case series: (1) patients with end-stage cardiomyopathy and HFrEF can undergo life-saving surgical procedures, such as in cancer treatment; (2) the use of the Impella allows the surgeon to perform operations with hemodynamic stability without any fear of the side effects of inotropic therapy; (3) multidisciplinary evaluation is essential, especially in this subset of patients." Great job Stefano Guarracini Michele Di Mauro Thanks to Giuseppe Emiliano Fierri for the support! https://lnkd.in/duHNji23

Understanding why clinical trials are important for patients with gynecologic cancers is essential. During CURE®'s Educated Patient® Gynecologic Cancers Summit, Dr. Sarah Crafton of AHN Allegheny General Hospital explained what trials entail and how they are performed. "Clinical trials also exist and occur to assess how well surgeries work, different surgery techniques. And these are all things that may happen from the time of diagnosis," Crafton said. "So, from the patient perspective, please never think it’s too early or too late to ask your provider about what my trial options may be.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eku_c3dv

Please find our recently published article in Endoscopy International Open: “Endoscopic Ultrasound with Tissue Acquisition of Lymph Nodes in Patients with Potentially Resectable Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma”. Accurate assessment of the lymph node status is crucial in resectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma to prevent major surgery in patients with extraregional metastatic LN. In this study we showed that endoscopic ultrasound has the promise to be of great value in patients with potentially resectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (in 30% surgical exploration was prevented). This study supports further prospective evaluation of routine implementation of EUS with lymph node assessment in patients with potentially resectable iCCA (such as the ongoing POELH trial, NCT05678218).
