Proud to share how our commitment to continuous improvement = more chances to give to those in need. As we continually refine nutrient-dense and compromise-free Rivalz Stuffed Snacks, we found ourselves with a surplus of product that was just as nutritious but not fully optimized. According to the Yolo County Food Access Survey, "an estimated 29% of households in Yolo County are facing food insecurity, 40% of those households with children, a figure that exceeds both state and national benchmarks." In line with our mission to help reduce obesity, diabetes and malnutrition, it was an obvious choice to donate nearly 80 pallets of our nutritious stuffed snacks to NorCal food banks. By doing so, we aim to provide tangible support and strengthen our commitment to positive change. ❗ Don't miss Daniel Wexler's workshop during the The Alliance for a Hunger Free New York's 4th annual Food Summit! 💡 Dan will be hosting an interactive session on Food As Medicine Interventions and #socialdeterminantsofhealth. The session goal is to illustrate how--in addition to income--other social determinants of health pose a barrier to food security; consider the diversity of #FoodisMedicine (FIM) treatment options; and understand the different types of benefits each solution offers, and what interventions might work best for different patients.

Today, we explore the persistent challenge of food insecurity in the United States. Liz speaks with Stephanie Norton-Bredl, Executive Director of the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank in Washington State, and Katherine McNulty, MA McNulty, Principal of Atrómitos, LLC, who happens to help run a rural food pantry in her home state of Connecticut. Their discussion highlights the crucial role of food banks in providing essential sustenance and support to vulnerable populations. Stephanie and Kate share insights into how food insecurity contributes to poor health outcomes, the importance of nutrition security, and the efforts to raise awareness and advocate for policy changes. They also discuss the role of affordable housing in combating food insecurity, the barriers to equitable access to healthy food options, and the various ways individuals and organizations can contribute to mitigating these challenges. Food insecurity is still a critical issue in 2024, impacting millions globally. Factors such as economic constraints, agricultural issues, and social disparities contribute to this problem. Convoy of Hope, a nonprofit organization, plays a significant role in combating food insecurity through initiatives like Children's Feeding and disaster response. Highlights: - Despite efforts by nonprofits and government agencies, food insecurity remains a critical concern in 2024. - Food insecurity affects millions of people globally, with an escalating impact on the U.S. and other countries. - Socioeconomic factors, agricultural practices, and global trends contribute to the growth of food insecurity. - Economic constraints make it difficult for low-income families to afford healthy foods, especially in food deserts. - Climate change and unsustainable farming practices reduce the availability and affordability of nutritious foods. - Marginalized communities face higher rates of food insecurity due to poverty and limited access to resources. - Inadequate knowledge and education about healthy foods contribute to poor dietary choices. Why is this relevant? The issue of food insecurity continues to persist despite the efforts of nonprofits and government agencies. It affects millions of people globally, including vulnerable communities facing poverty and limited resources. By understanding the causes of food insecurity, we can work towards implementing targeted interventions to break the cycle and ensure access to nutritious food for all. This is not only relevant to civil society but also to national security, as food insecurity can destabilize communities and have far-reaching socio-economic impacts. It is crucial for organizations like Convoy of Hope and individuals to support initiatives and advocate for policies that combat food insecurity and promote food accessibility and equity. Chobani is making a powerful impact in the fight against hunger in the Magic Valley, partnering with local organizations to ensure families have access to healthy, nutritious food. Their latest project, "Lola," is a 28-foot refrigerated trailer stationed at St. Luke’s Magic Valley, housing perishable items like eggs, dairy and fresh produce. Working alongside St. Luke's Health System, Glanbia Nutritionals and the Idaho Food Bank, Chobani aims to provide 2,500 healthy meals to families in need each week. Food insecurity in the Twin Falls and Jerome areas has risen sharply, with hunger increasing by 40% since the pandemic. Chobani’s chief impact officer, Nishant Roy, highlighted the urgent need, stating, "Access to nutrient-dense food is a basic human right, and we want to ensure our community is getting the nutritious meals they deserve." With a shortfall of nearly one million pounds of food in the region, Lola is a much-needed resource for families. The trailer, powered by St. Luke’s and managed in partnership with the Idaho Food Bank, is already making a difference. Local food pantries are working hard to distribute these essential food items, and the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Just one week after launching, food is reaching the families who need it most. This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration across sectors—healthcare, food production and nonprofit organizations—coming together to tackle hunger head-on. Chobani and its partners are committed to creating lasting change and ensuring no family in the Magic Valley goes hungry. 🔗 Read more at https://bit.ly/4dCktny. #EndHunger #FightFoodInsecurity #MagicValley #DairyDoesGood #AgNews
