In 2019, I was a clueless young girl living in Abuja, seeking career clarity. I hated my job and knew I could to better, but what is that “better?” I had just gotten a job as a Front Desk Officer/Human Resource Assistant at an IT Firm immediately after service so who am I to let go of the job so quickly with so much expenses “shinning teeth at me”… 😂 I remember sitting in the office one day and having a conversation with the project manager and that conversation shaped the trajectory of my life for good. My take home from that conversation were and still remains “what value can you offer?,” “what problems can you solve? Guess what? That same year, I landed my first Virtual Assistant Client. It was so surreal how a young girl who lacked clarity was now offering so much value to a client’s business all from one single conversation. What changed? The Power of Conversations!💡💡 Honestly, I have come to realize that if we must grow, break the limits, witness a change in any area of our lives, or rise beyond our comfort zone, we must be willing to have certain conversations Could be with someone or with ourselves- Just have that conversation and thank me later 🙂 Today, I have more clarity than I did five years ago. Why I Love Working Remotely, Especially for Teem There are many opportunities in life that come only once, and sometimes we miss these opportunities because we are not part of a company that truly values us as individuals. Unpopular opinion but I think that career objective is an important real estate that must be optimally utilized. Every CV needs a great professional summary. But what exactly is it and how do you write one? I would change “Career Objective” to “Summary” It should be a summary of your accomplishments related to the specific job you are applying for. Many people struggle to write a professional summary that is unique and helps them to stand out. 90% of the resumes I have reviewed follow the same pattern “A dynamic, fast-paced individual with over a decade of experience working with advertising agencies and developing policies for C-Suite leaders” (Whoever came up with this misled a whole generation). This could be better repurposed and rewritten based on a format like this : - 5 years of experience as a Director of communications for the largest advertising agency in Lagos, with 330 employees and 2 billion in Annual Revenue. - Led internal teams of up to 10 Managers and 7 interns. - Saved the company over 2.5 million by coordinating and implementing marketing automation strategies that captured new clients This real estate is a place to show your experience, including both hard and soft skills and tangible, quantifiable accomplishments.
