Delighted that IMPACTUM_ERC could contribute to the Rapporteur's important report on current issues and good practices in prison management. In our submission we highlight prison overcrowding and pretrial detention as major challenges to securing adequate prison management in most Latin American countries. We also discuss the good practices of certain States to reduce prison overcrowding. You can read all the contributions here: https://lnkd.in/eiSJJKf7

What do you think is more crucial for prisons? Enhanced security with better lighting using LED systems or lower total cost of ownership to reduce taxpayer burden? Prisons require robust and reliable lighting to enhance security and reduce operational costs. LED systems can promote a safer environment by providing better illumination in critical areas, deterring potential incidents and supporting surveillance efforts. Additionally, the long lifespan and energy efficiency of LED solutions contribute to a lower total cost of ownership, a key consideration for taxpayer-funded facilities. By adopting LED fixtures, prisons can achieve a balance between enhanced security and cost-effective operations, ultimately benefiting both the facility and the community it serves.

Great read! This book offers profound insights and valuable lessons, which I've revisited multiple times. It serves not only as a guide but also as a cautionary tool for navigating your journey. Like any set of principles, these lessons can be applied constructively or destructively, making it crucial to be mindful of your intentions.

This book is banned in prisons! It will shift your perspective on power in a way that runs counter to all collective wisdom on LinkedIn and in our "civil society" today. That’s what Robert Greene's book The 48 Laws of Power did for me. It opened my eyes to the complexities of power and manipulation, and the fact that it is banned in prisons further underscores its controversial yet profound content. Here are 10 pivotal lessons from the book that will challenge how you think about power dynamics: 1. “Never Outshine the Master” Always make those above you feel superior to retain your position and influence. 2. “Conceal Your Intentions” You prevent others from interfering with your plans by being enigmatic and keeping your goals hidden. 3. “Always Say Less Than Necessary” By saying less, you can maintain control over conversations and prevent saying something that can be used against you. 4. “Get Others to Do the Work for You, But Always Take the Credit” Using others' skills and resources saves your own and maximizes your accomplishments. 5. “Make Other People Come to You – Use Bait if Necessary” Making others act first gives you the upper hand and controls the narrative. 6. "Win Through Your Actions, Never Through Argument" Demonstrating your point through actions leaves a lasting impression and avoids misinterpretations. 7. "Keep Your Hands Clean" Maintaining a reputation of integrity and moral superiority keeps you respected and untouched. 8. "Crush Your Enemy Totally" Ensure your adversaries are completely neutralized, leaving no room for a comeback. 9. "Play to People's Fantasies" Playing to people's desires and fantasies can help you control and manipulate them. 10. "Assume Formlessness" Being adaptable and fluid makes you unpredictable and harder to oppose. The most telling quote from the book is, "When you show yourself to the world and display your talents, you naturally stir all kinds of resentment, envy, and other manifestations of insecurity... You cannot spend your life worrying about the petty feelings of others." If you have read "The 48 Laws of Power", I’d love to hear your insights and experiences in the comments. Do you believe the book’s power dynamics hold in the modern world? Or is it the problem with the modern world? #PowerDynamics #LeadershipBooks

CSRPC and Beyond Prisons keeps humanity at the forefront when exploring places like the carceral system. By illuminating the central role that race and racism play in so many systems of oppression, we can start moving toward a paradigm shift. I hope you will consider supporting CSRPC today so that we can continue this important work. Go to bit.ly/CSRPCGIVING 🙏🏽 Jimmy Soto, CSRPC Beyond Prisons Justice Practitioner Fellow

A Wealth Tas as requested by patriotic Millionaires and a Financial Transaction Tax of 0.025% to 0.1% would solve UK problems and all information was sent to PM, Chancellor and Treasury in July 2024. This explains the option given to #Camoron and #Osborne in 2014 who chose #Austeruty instead and well worth reading https://lnkd.in/eu46dYwv
Trevor Philips, "You can't keep saying you've inherited these problems" Wes Streeting, "Hang on a second, I don't think any government has come in to find prisons full to bursting" "I don't think any government has come in with crumbling state infrastructures, from hospital buildings to schools, to prisons, to transport infrastructure" "There is a real challenge"

100% agree with this, way too many penal reform groups and prisoner charities are largely devoid of those with lived experience, or just have the token ex-offender or two for fundraising purposes. Until you can serve a prison sentence by reading a book about it, then all penal reform groups and prisoner charities should have a Board where those with lived experience of custody are the majority on that Board, and not the token exception.
“No longer can prisons be our default social service because this model just doesn’t work for anyone, especially victims. This crisis must be a transformational tipping point, with bold and innovative solutions produced in partnership with all stakeholders, including people living and working in the system. The front line is where the wisdom lies, and lived experience must be at the heart of effective solutions.” Our CEO Lucie Russell shares her experiences of visiting prisons, speaking to residents, and how their insights can be used to make the justice system work!
