Healthcare providers: Gulf Coast ticks, historically found in the southeast, have expanded their range to the northeast. These ticks have been found in places like Staten Island, NY and Fairfield, CT. Gulf Coast ticks can spread Rickettsia parkeri rickettsiosis, a form of spotted fever. HCPs in the northeast region should consider Rickettsia parkeri rickettsiosis if a person comes to them with the following signs: ☑️ Dark scab (eschar), which appears in most cases of R. parkeri rickettsiosis ☑️ Fever ☑️ Headache ☑️ Rash ☑️ Muscle aches https://bit.ly/3Yjn8yf

Every Visit Counts Every encounter with a patient counts and should be an opportunity to thoroughly assess for any signs or risk factors of venous and arterial insufficiency. These conditions, if left unchecked, are key contributors to the development of leg ulcers. Early identification and intervention can help prevent ulcers from occurring, reducing complications and the strain they place on the NHS. Key factors to look out for include poor circulation, swelling, varicose veins, and skin changes. Let's be proactive in assessing and preventing these issues to improve patient outcomes and ease the healthcare burden.

Today is #WorldDiabetesDay! Let us break barriers to knowledge and information, to care, to management and to accessing medicines. Let us be the bridge that fills the gaps existing in our our organisations and communities so that together, we can overcome the growing burden of diabetes globally. As Rockside Pharmacy we believe patient counselling is one of the many great ways for community pharmacies to actively play a role in breaking barriers and bridging gaps regarding #Diabetes. Patient counselling; 1. Opens the platform to understanding a client better as it opens up communication lines; 2. Allows the health professional to promote medicine adherence 3. Is an avenue for provision of health information on prevention & management of diabetes 4. Promotes better management by helping patients better understand their doses and use of devices especially when it comes to glucometers, insulin shots etc. There is so much more we can do, collectively! Happy #WorldDiabetesDay24 Towards better #HealthandWellbeing 💙 💚

Greater use of #pharmacists to treat minor illnesses could potentially save millions of dollars in #healthcare costs, according to new research. The study found that care for a range of minor health issues — including #urinarytractinfections, #shingles, #animalbites and #headaches — costs an average of about $278 less when treated in #pharmacies compared to patients with similar conditions treated at “traditional sites” of #primarycare, #urgentcare or #emergencyroom settings. Notably, if all of the illnesses in the three-year study that were treated at a traditional site of care had been treated by community pharmacists, it would have saved an estimated $23 million in health care expenses.
