😞I’m so tired of the cynical dystopian moaning of people who tap into our sense of outrage to get noticed! Repeat after me… You are NOT the product! You are NOT the product! You are NOT the product! Creating more amazing products and services that are given away for free or very low cost is AMAZING. The idea that advertising is evil and not realizing it was one of our most amazing inventions … yes, there is a lot of bad advertising and interruption marketing, but don’t mix up poor execution with evil intent. We’re moving to a world, where you’ll have a genie that anticipates your whims and desires and conjures the solution! Look, I’m the first one to push innovators to take a more humane approach to design — I developed purpose-driven innovation (https://lnkd.in/g5R75PQj ) for this purpose, but please stop falling for this cynical view that you’re the product! We have A LOT to solve on privacy and new revenue models to reward artists!! I believe AI will actually open us to more amazing art and more amazing artists. I get that change is hard, and some bad actors will misbehave, but let’s stop the Luddite fallacy! I’ll get off my soapbox. As always ‘strong opinions, loosely held,’ — if you believe I’m missing something weigh in on the comments!
The goal of consumer tech development used to be pretty simple: design and build something of value to people. But now *we* are the product, not the prime beneficiary. https://trib.al/0WVQQPG
We used to get excited about technology. What happened?

Yes to all of this. Technology should aid humans, improve life; not fuel massive profits to major corporations through user manipulation (e.g. Dopamine hijacking). Interesting read:

Technology used to be about making our lives better. Now, too often, WE are the product, and the people who profit from us using technology are the ones collecting our data. As the author points out, fridges no longer just keep our food—it tracks our habits as well. A robot vacuum cleaner doesn't just clean the living room—it maps our entire home. Technology nowadays is shifting from serving us to serving those who profit from our data. It's time to bring the focus back to technology that serves people, not just profits. #TechForGood #DataPrivacy #PeopleOverProfits

When it comes to scaling operating systems, no one knows more than Google. Later this month at NexusCon, I’m excited to welcome their team to share the deets on their Building Operating System, which captures more than 29 million data records every day from their 200 buildings around the world. Among, well, everything else, Google has been a trailblazer in the #smartbuildings industry and provides a critical example to others as to what is possible. The technology that makes up the BOS is only the tip of the iceberg. True success was dependent on strategies such as: 🤖 Top-down sponsorship enabled by the promise of AI ✔️ Focusing on data validation at scale 🖼️ Creating a digitization framework that aligns with business objectives 👷♂️ A company culture of safety and security in buildings Crucially, the session will be about the lessons that ANYONE can apply, even if they don’t have Google’s resources. Finally, Google will unveil a live demo of their BOS platform to show the modern-day digitization of buildings in action. 🙋♂️I know I’ll be there. So will Sabine Lam, Kathy Farrington, Richard Reid, Clare Meredith, and Kira Dickson. The only question is, will you be joining me?
