Gain from life stage transitions: Take advantage of the opportunities that arise during different phases of life. Be prepared to leverage them to your advantage. Uncover your strengths and do what's right: Identify your unique strengths and talents. Focus on utilizing them to make a positive impact, both for yourself and those around you. Prioritize mental and physical well-being: Understand the importance of taking care of your overall health to excel in both your personal and professional life. Mentorship and developing leadership qualities: Embrace the role of a mentor, helping others to develop their leadership qualities and succeed in their own journeys. Seek guidance from mentors: Actively seek out mentors who can offer valuable guidance and support, helping you navigate challenges and achieve your goals. Contribute to the community: Engage in community service and initiatives that create a meaningful impact. Find ways to give back and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

How would it change partnerships between predominantly white institutions and predominantly Black communities if these partnerships were more like friendships? That's a question I probe in this review of half a dozen books on universities and place-based engagements. Been wishing to read the most recent books on collegiate community engagement? My gloss on these books might be a catalyst for your reading. https://lnkd.in/eVcP2nP7

"To network or not to network..." I love networking, because it broadens my horizon, keeps me up-to-date and I just like to exchange ideas with people and hear their experiences, perspectives and opinions. However, in the aftermath of the #Uniper Diversity Day on the topic of "social background" and Fatima Hussain, LL.M.'s inspiring speech, I once again asked myself to what extent networks are also "obstructionists". Networks are often not only sources of inspiration and exchange, but also of power and influence. If you have a good network, it is easier to get information, resources and opportunities that will help you privately or professionally. But not everyone has the same access to networks. For people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds or people with a migration background, for example, a firmly established, influential network of like-minded people can often become an obstacle, because it is much more difficult for them to get access or "belong". That's why it's important that we don't just use our networks for ourselves, but diversify them. This not only helps those affected, but also ourselves and our organizations, because it can contribute to: 💡 overcoming prejudices and stereotypes 📍 promoting empathy and understanding 🗝 strengthening our social responsibility by advocating for the interests of others, opening up opportunities for them and involving them ✔ and last but not least: to benefitting from diversity by learning from the different skills, ideas and solutions that people from different social groups can contribute. Therefore let us all contribute to making networks even more diverse and accessible!

Image title: How does the increase in global connectivity affect our sense of belonging and community? Download this image here: https://lnkd.in/d3nrjkPS Additional thoughts: Global ties and the sense of belonging are deeply influenced by the growth of worldwide connectivity. This expanding network both strengthens and challenges our communal bonds, fostering a sense of friendship, brotherhood, and sisterhood that spans the globe. As we become more connected, the essence of forming deep, meaningful relationships faces new trials. This era of digital connection brings us closer to distant communities but also highlights the need for genuine interaction. Emphasizing the importance of nurturing our bonds, this perspective invites us to cherish and strengthen our sense of community and belonging in an ever-connected world.
