This special issue on "Professionalism, Incivility, and Social Media: Educational Foundations in Digital Times" grapples with timely and important themes. I've learned so much by connecting with the authors and Editors Gemma Porter, Ee-Seul Yoon, and Jonathan Anuik of this issue of the OA Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education. The feedback I received made me think deeply about social media, critical pedagogy, digital literacies, and Educational Development practice. I look forward to any thoughts people have on my piece on "Building Critical Digital Literacies for Social Media through Educational Development" https://lnkd.in/gUnVJJHr #socialmedia #highereduation #educationaldevelopment #digitalliteracies

Absolutely spot-on! 🌟 One of the major obstacles to advancing Inclusive Education globally is the deep-rooted dominance of traditional special education practices. To make real progress, we need to move beyond mere rhetoric and focus on developing practical, inclusive education strategies and tools. This involves not only equipping educators with the necessary intellectual tools but also addressing the inconsistencies that arise when integrating inclusive education with other policies. Let's work towards a more cohesive and effective approach to ensure every learner receives the support they need! 🌍📚 #InclusiveEducation #EducationalReform #EdTech #EquityInEducation

ARE YOU AN ADMIN OR A TEACHER AT AN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL? PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS... Integrating a rich history of LOCAL literature and history into the curriculum of post-colonial countries is essential for preserving cultural identity, empowering individuals, fostering critical thinking, and promoting global understanding. It challenges the remnants of colonial control and arrogance, dismantles the White Savior Complex, and supports the empowerment of local educators. This approach is a fundamental step towards healing from the past and building a more inclusive, dignified, and equitable future. "Challenging the White Savior Complex" The White Savior Complex, where white individuals see themselves as rescuing or enlightening people of color, can be deeply patronizing and counterproductive. A curriculum that prioritizes indigenous literature and perspectives helps dismantle this complex by showing that indigenous peoples have their own rich histories, knowledge systems, and solutions. It fosters an environment of mutual respect and learning, rather than one of condescension and imposed superiority. "Empowering Local Educators" Supporting local educators in teaching their own literary traditions can help counteract the negative impacts of control and arrogance by outside influences. Empowering local voices and perspectives ensures that education is relevant and resonant for students, fostering a sense of pride and ownership in their cultural heritage. 🌟 Congratulations, Professor Clinton David van der Merwe! 🌟 I'm thrilled to share the incredible achievement of Professor Clinton David van der Merwe from the Department of Humanities Education, Faculty of Education, University of Pretoria, who has co-authored an insightful article on critical disciplinary literacies (CDL) in (teacher) education. Co-authored with Navan Govender (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Strathclyde) and Saima Salehjee (School of Social and Environmental Sustainability, University of Glasgow), this article delves into the transformative potential of CDL by revisiting and adapting Luke and Freebody’s four resources model. The research highlights the critical questions educators should ask about knowledge, practice, and text/representation within different disciplines. The study features two illustrative cases—one from science education and one from geography education—demonstrating how the CDL model can be applied across the curriculum. These examples showcase how CDL can relate disciplines to students' lives and demystify the process of producing disciplinary texts. The article concludes with a powerful call to action for educators to explore the pedagogical utility of the CDL model, encouraging them to identify and interrogate dominant texts and redesign text and practice using diverse sources and approaches. This contribution significantly builds on existing scholarship in critical literacies, disciplinary literacies, and teacher education, offering valuable insights for pedagogy in both school and higher education contexts. 📚 Full Text Available: https://lnkd.in/daT4-wtD #Education #TeacherEducation #CriticalLiteracies #Humanities #Pedagogy #Congratulations #AcademicAchievement

At the centre of all teaching activities are resources. From the time a teacher makes up their mind to be teach, they start interacting with materials, social and human resources. With the digital era comes unlimited access to the internet which provides vast resources for teachers. My research focuses on science teacher development and the resources that gets them through their micro and macro activities as professionals. During one of my courses in the 2022/2023 session, I conceived an idea to explore how preservice early childhood educators teach science with online resources and if they find this resources diversified enough for their student populations. This research was sponsored by the Kent State University Graduate Student Senate and it was accepted by Journal of Multicultural Education. After iterations of revisions, it is published online by Emerald Publishing https://lnkd.in/geRC5BAy My appreciation goes to my professors and colleagues who walked me through the process of qualitative research and added the needed rigor for this study. Kindly read the abstract and tell me what you think. #teaching #scienceeducation #multicultural #onlineresources
