GINI: Global Innovative Network Iniciative This week Malaga City has signed a collaborative agreement with other main innovative cities: Dortmund,🇩🇪 Montgomery🇺🇸, Daejeon🇰🇷 and Seattle🇺🇸. We all share the same basis for our city strategy: INNOVATION. That also explains the fact that we all have suffered a big transformation in the past years. It is also very enlightening to understand we are facing exactly the same challenges: affordable housing, water access, traffic congestion… those are GLOBAL challenges, and with this agreement we expect to jointly face them. In addition, we seek to stimulate local economies together, sharing our knowledge and experience, to create quality jobs and to incentivate entrepreneurial spirit. 👏 Braga's Human Power Hub recognised as an URBACT Good Practice _ We are very proud to announce that the Human Power Hub (HPH), a Social Innovation Centre integrated into BragaHabit E.M., has been awarded the URBACT Good Practice label. This recognition, awarded by the URBACT European Territorial Cooperation Programme, values the impact and innovation of the HPH in promoting projects with a social impact, as validated by the URBACT Monitoring Committee and a panel of independent experts. _ URBACT, a programme co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, promotes sustainable urban development throughout Europe, covering the 28 Member States, Norway and Switzerland. The distinction received by the Human Power Hub not only integrates the HPH into a European network of reference projects, but also reinforces its role as a driver of social and urban transformation in Braga and the region. _ Created in 2020 and funded by the Portugal Social Innovation Programme through the Partnerships for Impact measure, HPH's mission is to accelerate and incubate entrepreneurial initiatives focused on social transformation. Its methodology, inspired by the ‘quadruple helix’, promotes active collaboration between the public, corporate, social and academic sectors, creating innovative solutions to community challenges. _ URBACT ‘s recognition will provide greater visibility for HFH, and our participation in the URBACT Cities Festival from 8 to 10 April 2025 in Wroclaw, Poland, stands out. Pedestrianized Street ++ [case study] >> Pontevedra, a city in northwestern Spain, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years by implementing a comprehensive car-free plan. The city's urban center has been completely pedestrianized, with cars banned from the historic quarter and only residents, public transportation, and emergency vehicles allowed to enter. This initiative has had numerous benefits for the city and its residents, here are two: 1. The car-free plan has revitalized the local economy by creating a more attractive and vibrant city center. Without cars clogging the streets, pedestrians have more space to walk, shop, and socialize, leading to an increase in foot traffic and business for local shops and restaurants. 2. The car-free transformation is the improvement in air quality and reduction in noise pollution. By reducing the number of cars in the city center, Pontevedra has significantly lowered its carbon emissions and created a more peaceful and livable urban environment. An important milestone is approaching for #synikia: the #socialhousing Mediterranean demo will soon open its door to its new tenants so partners gathered in Barcelona 🏡 🟡Awareness raising events sparked interest from tenants to share consumption data and understand their impact on climate in Austria. 🟢An innovation implemented in the Spanish social housing demo is the presence of an #energy manager, responsible of: optimising centralized heating, directly invoicing tenants, or ensuring building and energy system maintenance. 🟡Tenant-ambassadors were appointed in the Dutch demo to guide all tenants in adapting to SPEN living, fostering continuous contact. 🟢In the Norwegian demo, private owners will be able to monitor their own consumption.   Visiting Barcelona created the opportunity to meet local representatives and discus the value of the project. ‘Changing minds and innovation are only possible when there is a will’, said Maria Sisternas, Director of INCASÒL | Institut Català del Sòl. Our project coordinator Niki Gaitani highlighted the need for a #neighbourhood approach to be able to achieve #carbonneutrality and that above all there is the #social cohesion. Julien DIJOL, Housing Europe Policy Director explained the trilemma of #affordable, available and #sustainable housing. The social sector might manage to overcome it thanks to public financial support. Representing the Spanish public housing association AVS Gestores Públicos JOSE MARIA ESCOLASTICO SANCHEZ talked about why we need to start taking #housing seriously and consider it a human right. From Arca Nova Gruppen: We knew that we would have smaller margins than usual. We expect when this will take off that the market will follow. Presenting the Dutch case, Thijs van den Oord shared that these projects do not directly impact the rents, but costs eventually influence the feasibility of the project.   A study visit was organised in the Fondo neighbourhood, to discover the new demo building.
