Equality Australia’s Post

Yesterday, after extensive community consultation the Australian Government launched a national action plan for LGBTIQA+ health, accompanied by $15.5 million in funding. The plan prioritises our community driven health organisations and making mainstream services more accessible for our communities. This announcement is a very welcome step to addressing the health disparities experienced by our communities. We all deserve access to safe, respectful, high quality and inclusive healthcare. Good news! Next step, ending religious institutions’ legal right to discriminate against the LGBT community - particularly schools. 1 in 3 kids attends a religious-affiliated school in Oz. Whether a queer kid dealing with bullying, or a straight kid listening to anti-LGBT propaganda - both are harmful and prevent Australia from becoming a safe and inclusive country for all.

Fingers crossed in the hope of a gender affirming care model as per Auspath guidelines are practiced. We don't want another Sydney hospital gatekeeping and holding the funding at the same time.

Wait to see how Dutton responds to the plan and whether he will not support it if he wins government
