A compelling new study by the California Health Care Foundation and Healthforce Center at UCSF underscores the pivotal role of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in addressing healthcare gaps across California. As the largest group of non-physician primary care providers, NPs are making significant strides in filling critical voids in primary care and behavioral health services, serving underserved communities and providing culturally competent care to diverse populations. This report not only highlights the invaluable contributions of NPs but also emphasizes the need for continued support and empowerment of these healthcare leaders. #NursePractitioners #HealthcareAccess #PrimaryCare #HealthcarePolicy #NursingLeadership #HealthEquity California Health Care Foundation, Healthforce Center at UCSF, CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF NURSE PRACTITIONERS CANP

There are SO many serious concerns in the US right now, especially in healthcare: private equity firms driving hospitals into the ground, widespread abuse and fraud, profound inequity in access and outcomes. We don't need to be inventing turf wars (in my head physicians snapping their fingers like West Side story as they approach a group of new grad NPs and PAs). I promise you, and evidence supports, there're more than enough patients for the amount of providers. Opponents of nurse practitioners contend that quality of care may suffer under the direction of a non-physician practitioner, citing the shorter length of training and clinical experience required. Their argument is that restrictions are necessary to protect public health. However, academic literature finds no evidence of harm to patients associated with less-restrictive Scope of Practice (SOP) laws. When no harm is present, the restrictions serve only to generate artificial barriers to care that ultimately provide physicians with protection from competition, prevent the attainment of system-wide efficiencies, and constrain overall provider capacity The truth is that NPs provide a substantial portion of the high-quality, cost-effective care that communities nationwide require. According to MedPAC, APRNs and PAs comprise approximately one-third of our primary care workforce, and up to half in rural areas. NPs are essential to providing equitable access to care for all communities, including a substantial portion of health care in rural areas and areas of lower socioeconomic and health status. We're here, we deliver high quality care, get over it. ✌ #nursepractitioner #americanhealthcare #bloomberg #nursing #healthcare #nurse

"academic literature finds no evidence of harm". A total BS argument. There has NEVER been a good study done. The studies the nurses put forth as "proof" are uniformly bad. One study often cited is by Laurant. It looked at 8885 studies purporting to look at quality of care and could find only 18 that were of sufficient quality to evaluate. These were the best of the best studies. NOT ONE evaluated the accuracy of diagnosis or the accuracy of treatment. 3 of them compared Nurses doing triage to physicians doing triage and found no more deaths in the nurse triage groups. 10 of 18 tested only the NPs ability to follow an algorithm set up by physicians. In 14 studies - anyone significantly ill was excluded from NP care. In 15 of 18, physicians supervised the nurses, in the other three there was no comment about this. THIS is the quality of the research that is available. I know you haven't read and evaluated it yourself, you only parrot what the AANP gaslights legislators with. I am a physician researcher and this is the worst excuse for research I have seen in my many decades of practice. No one should believe this statement, and by extension, no one should be believe you. You do not know what you are writing about.

"I can’t emphasize enough how important nurse practitioners are to the Community Health Centers, but more importantly – it’s about patients first. Patients are the most important part of this equation. Patients are the ones who can’t access health care. It’s not just primary care, it’s behavioral health services. Nurse practitioners are filling that gap day in and day out across the state. We have 375 locations across Pennsylvania. We cannot find enough physicians to care for those folks. 80% of the million people we care for every day are on Medicaid or uninsured. Nurse practitioners are the backbone of what we do day in and day out. We employ more than 300 nurse practitioners across Pennsylvania. They care for 750,000 patients every year. That’s why Senate Bill 25 and House Bill 1825 are so incredibly important to the future of health care." – Eric Kiehl, PA Association of Community Health #NursePractitioners #CareForPA #FullPracticeAuthority #HB1825 #SB25 #AccessToCare #PatientsFirst #CommunityHealthAccess

Did you know that not only do NPs provide exceptional patient care, but they are also leading change in healthcare policies? 🩺 Take the case of Dr. Sophia L. Thomas, a nurse practitioner who served as the 2019-2020 President of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). During her tenure, Dr. Thomas advocated for the removal of barriers to NP practice, testifying before Congress and working with state legislators to promote full practice authority. Her efforts contributed to the passage of several state laws expanding NP scope of practice, improving healthcare access for millions of Americans. 🇺🇸 As an NP, you'll have the opportunity to advocate for policies that improve access to quality healthcare, address health disparities, and promote preventive care. Here’s how you can be part of the change and start making a difference: Participating in state and national nurses' associations 🤝 Attending legislative sessions to understand the policymaking process 🏛️ Building relationships with state lawmakers 🤝 Contributing evidence-based data to inform policy decisions 📊 Educating the public about the process and policies 📣 Your unique blend of clinical expertise and patient-centered approach will be invaluable in shaping policies that prioritize the well-being of individuals and communities. We want to hear from you! Drop a comment below and let us know what healthcare policy or problem you'd like to see changed. 💬 #NPHub #NursePractitioners #HealthierTomorrows
