💭Imagine in a perfect world of #PFAS remediation, PFAS impacted waters could arrive by rail or by truck from across the nation. Upon arrival to a central processing facility, the waters would be stored in large holding tanks, before being transferred to a bank of effective and sustainable PFAS remediation technologies working in tandem and at scale to separate and concentrate PFAS. Clients have the satisfaction that their PFAS problem has been effectively resolved and is no longer their responsibility. And the world breathes a sigh of relief that PFAS contaminants are being reduced globally, and that it’s being managed in a sustainable and effective manner. Sounds like a fairy tale?! Think again. This high volume / high impact scenario is playing out right now in the USA, where EPOC Enviro’s #SAFF® family of PFAS remediation technologies is working collectively to remediate PFAS impacted waters which have been sourced from across the country at a facility owned by Crystal Clean in Grand Rapids. EPOC Enviro is now operating four #SAFF® #PFAS remediation systems to remediate up to 1.1 million litres of PFAS impacted waters daily at one of the largest trade waste PFAS remediation treatment facilities in the USA. The technology, which consists of three flagship #SAFF40® systems and one SAFF® Hyper-Concentrator, is working in a quadruple stack to separate and concentrate PFAS from heavily contaminated waters sourced from across the continental U.S. at Grand Rapids in Michigan. Tight Tech Tuesday loves this quadruple #FoamFractionation set up for effective, economic and sustainable leachate treatment Leachates are a special type of water - ever changing with each site. High DOC, suspended solids, total organic matter, metals, salinity, animals and algae... yeah there really is no end to the different types of challenges these water can offer. And this is the reason it is so hard to treat. Filtermedia Activated Carbon struggles with all from particles to DOC and organics, as is AIX with salts, metals and biofouling. Foam Fractionation on the other hand is not. I have been working with the #SAFF technology by EPOC Enviro for >5 years, and I am still amazed after every water we treat how robust it is. The very first SAFF system ever installed to treat leachate has treated approx 400 000 m3 of leachate containing various contaminants, massive algae growths, "prawn like animals" massive DOC levels and salts for 4 years, never breaking guideline criteria. Removing up to 99% of all long chain PFAS, including PFNA, PFOS, PFOA, PFHxS and 6:2 FTS. And this using Only air, no consumables and producing minimum waste (<5 M3 per 100 000 M3 treated) . At a flow rate of up to 25 m3/h per SAFF unit. And the journey continues, as additives researched by Allonnia are now introduced to the batch treatment, allowing removal of up to 99% of shorter chain PFAS PFBS and PFHXA, as well as approx 60-70% PFPeA and 40% PFBA. And that's using only air, producing minimal waste (< 5 - 10 m3 per 100 000 m3) and a pinch of chemicals that are removed in the process. Now that's cool in my book.

Tougher US federal limits on PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” will prompt potentially exposed parties like manufacturers, municipalities and utilities to address liability risks. Complying with the rules and cleaning up contamination could require $300 billion of additional spending by 2040, according to Scott Levine, senior industrial services analyst. Nearly $200 billion of which may flow to environmental companies, like AECOM and Jacobs, waste processors including Clean Harbors and Veolia and water solutions providers such as Xylem could gain revenue from PFAS remediation. https://lnkd.in/eddYcaPQ #foreeverchemicals #contamination #PFAS

EPA has released updated interim guidance on how to dispose of and destroy certain PFAS compounds. The updated guidance reflects the latest, best available science to provide information that managers of PFAS wastes can use to evaluate the most appropriate destruction, disposal, or storage method among those currently available. As usual, GWTT will be following these updates closely and integrating the guidance into our water treatment solutions for PFAS remediation. #PFAS #EPA #foreverchemicals #PFOS #PFOA #GWTT #watertreatment #environmentalremediation https://lnkd.in/e6egCsnZ

"Clean and reliable drinking water is the main concern, but the process is not as easy as flipping a switch. We continue to work as hard as we can. I get it, people are frustrated and we want to deliver safer drinking water." Many places are struggling with this same challenge. PFAS are difficult to remove from water. AIMM is working to remove a broader range of them and make water safer for everyone. #safewater #safewaterforall #waterfilter #waterfiltration #waterfilters #nanotechnology #nanotech #nanomaterials #aimmlabs #pfas #foreverchemicals #water https://lnkd.in/g7Swz3xk

What’s happening with PFAS clean-up across Australia? And is it even possible? ISF’s Dr Rachael Wakefield-Rann and Sarah Wilson explore these questions in their recently published article in The Conversation Australia + NZ. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were once hailed as wonder materials, but these compounds also have a dark side that’s earned them the nickname “forever chemicals”. As the science and technology continues to develop, it is more important than ever to adopt a whole-of-supply-chain approach to PFAS management.
