PriceMe just launched two new games (!!) and the early results are pretty cool 🎮 They’ve been played 7,000+ times 👥 Those plays come from about 1,300 players, so people are coming back 🟪 🟧 ⬜And definitely my favorite stat: players have shared the game a total of almost 500 times. It’s early, but I’m happy with the numbers we’re getting from a fairly low-fi test of the concept Want to be our 7,001st player? Check out PriceMe Puzzle (it’s doing the heavy lifting in those stats). Link in the comments. #startup #realestatetech

Today's the second anniversary of A16Z GAMES and (roughly) the first anniversary for A16Z GAMES SPEEDRUN. A lot's changed in the last two years! When I joined we were still investing in games from the consumer fund. We spun out our fledgling "startup" VC with six people; now we're a team over twenty strong. We cover everything from talent to marketing to creators to content to BD to publishing. We started with games studios - I invested in Theorycraft Games, The Believer Company, Azra Games 🔜 Consensus Austin, Roboto Games, Metatheory Inc., Lumi Interactive and others my first year - but we've also gone way broader. Now we have a broad portfolio of tech x games, ranging from AI, web3, AR/VR, infra tools, prosumer platforms, and gamified apps. We launched SPEEDRUN! It was a total experiment at the beginning; can we teach the principles of game design and inspire the next generation of great game founders? And now it's a real institution. Seventy plus companies, tens of millions of dollars deployed, and many startups that have grown their business and raised follow-on capital. It's a real team effort with Andrew Lee Joshua Lu Samira Behrouzan Petra Garrett and the rest of the team. Every function has scaled. Jordan Mazer and Caitlin Cooke have become LinkedIn whisperers and have directed thousands of candidates. Doug McCracken Samira Behrouzan Lester Chen have done a great job rebranding our fund, launching a YouTube, and now a substack too. Katia Ameri has turned tech week into a real institution with tens of thousands of people. So what next? Well first, we're bringing SPEEDRUN to LA, and applications close tomorrow. We want to connect the tech x games ecosystem in LA and support the burgeoning community here. And second, we raised GAMES FUND TWO. For my part, I've launched my own substack, TikTok, and continue to invest in the best B2C founders out there. If you're building a studio, UGC platform, gamified app, anime, or web3 startup, let's chat.

Level Headed Games is more than just our company name, it speaks to who we are and how we work. As we've been crafting our first online multiplayer game over the past year, we've identified some core philosophies that are making us successful in a very tumultuous time in our industry: 1) We have big ambitions, but they don't involve Web3 or GenAI. Our experienced team knows how to make successful games and franchises that delight fans, so that's what we are doing. 2) We don't need to burn through tens of millions to make an awesome game. We are well-connected and resourceful, and get the most out of every dollar we spend. 3) We make multiplayer games for the underserved Gen Z and cross-generational markets who want to play games together without killing each other. We take building our business and our go-to-market strategy as seriously as building our game. And now that we are less than a year away from first revenue, we are looking for the right partners to help us hit that milestone as successfully as possible. If you provide finishing funds, games publishing, community building, or other partnership services and feel our philosophies align with yours, we'd love to meet up at #gdc2024! #gamedevelopment #gamepublishing #startup #finishup

🚀 #FundingAlert — Grand Games, an Istanbul-based startup specializing in social mobile games, has secured $3 million in pre-seed funding to develop its mobile titles. Led by Earlybird Venture Capital Digital East Fund with participation from Laton Ventures, this funding will help Grand Games build its team and develop its games. The company has already soft-launched its first game, Magic Sort!, with another game, Car Match, to follow this month, and plans for a flagship social interaction game in early 2025. “We saw how fragmented mobile game development had become and took the opportunity to build a radically different company to what we were seeing in the market,” said co-founder and CEO Bekir Batuhan Çelebi.
