The Lesson I’m Grateful For – From the People Who Got It Wrong I’m sure most of us have those people in our careers we remember vividly. The ones who took advantage, the ones who didn’t play fair, and those who simply made things harder than they needed to be. Ironically, some of them are even right here on LinkedIn! We see posts about toxic workplaces, bad bosses, colleagues who didn’t support us – and if I’m being honest, I’ve known my fair share of them. But here’s the thing: rather than let those experiences weigh me down, I made a decision early on. I’ll never treat people that way. No matter how high I climb or how successful I may become, there’s simply no amount of money, no level of success, and no position worth mistreating people. That’s a rule I won’t bend on. To all those people who pushed me, who didn’t believe in me, who tested my patience – I want to say thank you. You taught me what not to do, and that lesson has shaped my approach to leadership and to life. I’ve learned that leadership means earning trust and being the kind of person who respects others, their time, and their talent. It means lifting people up and never taking advantage. Every day, my mission is to prove that there’s a better way – one based on integrity, respect, and genuine care for the people who help us reach our goals. So, here’s a toast to all those who got it wrong – you showed me what’s possible when we get it right.

Why people tend to honor those who are already honored? There are a few reasons, rooted in both social psychology and logic, why people tend to honor those who are already honored: Social Proof: Humans are social creatures and we rely on the behavior of others to guide our own actions. This is called social proof. If many people respect someone, it suggests to others that this person must be worthy of respect. This can be seen in things like celebrity endorsements or following fashion trends. #SocialPsychology #SocialInfluence Bandwagon Effect: Closely related to social proof is the bandwagon effect. People are more likely to join a bandwagon, or go along with the crowd, if they see others doing the same thing. In the case of honoring someone, the more people who honor them, the more it seems like the "right" thing to do. #BandwagonEffect Credibility and Legitimacy: Recognition and honor from others lends credibility and legitimacy to someone's achievements or position. If someone is already honored, it suggests their accomplishments are real and significant. This can be seen in academic awards or prestigious job titles. #Credibility #Legitimacy Validation: People often seek validation for their beliefs and opinions. If someone they respect honors another person, it can feel like validation of their own judgment. #Validation It's important to note that this tendency doesn't always lead to the best decisions. Someone might be honored for the wrong reasons, or people might blindly follow the crowd without critical evaluation.
