Perhaps the factor I find most compelling about the transformation sweeping this region is that meaningful change is taking place at every level of society and in every corner of the economy.
And, while each GCC country has a strategic plan at a national level, it’s important to remember that many emirates, provinces, and governorates within those countries have their own vision at a local level.
For example, at ATÖLYE we’ve enjoyed working with Ajman’s Executive Council for the past year, supporting them on different components of their inspiring Vision 2030 – from placemaking to capacity-building for the next generation, as well as helping to express the Vision itself.
Of course, the micro needs to be in sync with the macro, as it is in Ajman, but setting out a provincial vision is a chance to celebrate the rich diversity of regional heritage and focus on what matters most to local communities.
It’s with this in mind that on Monday morning I will head out on a road trip around parts of Saudi Arabia.
Once I’ve met some of our current clients and friends in Riyadh, I will head north, via Hail Region Development Authority to The Royal Commission for AlUla where I hope to learn more about upcoming heritage and community projects.
My journey is likely to include Tabuk, the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, the Madinah Region Development Authority MRDA - Official Page, Jeddah Municipality أمانة محافظة جدة, Aseer Development Authority (ASDA) - هيئة تطوير منطقة عسير, and Jazan Region Development Strategic Office | المكتب الاستراتيجي لتطوير منطقة جازان
I look forward to making new friends along and sharing ATÖLYE’s community-powered story, as well as insights into some of the meaningful change we’ve helped various leaders to deliver across the region.
If you’re currently working on a transformation project for your organisation, and my route passes near your city, please let me know – it would be a pleasure to meet up.
