Last week, I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Stuart Edwards, the HSE Director of Orascom Construction PLC , alongside Dr. Engy Serag, the Contracts and Claims Executive Director of Orascom Construction PLC. Our discussions centered around the Cairo Metro Line 4 project, which is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This initiative stands as one of the largest national efforts to enhance urban mobility and promote environmental sustainability in Egypt. As part of my role in the environmental and social aspects of the project, I’m thrilled to contribute to several key sustainability goals: 1. Reducing Carbon Emissions: By efficiently transporting over 2 million passengers daily, we significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions in the bustling capital. 2. Promoting Sustainable Urban Development: This project supports the creation of a more integrated and accessible urban environment, aligning with sustainable city development goals. 3. Enhancing Public Health: Improved public transport reduces reliance on private vehicles, leading to better air quality and healthier communities. 4. Community Engagement: Actively involving local communities in the project planning process ensures their needs and concerns are addressed, fostering social equity. 5. Resource Efficiency: Focused on minimizing waste and maximizing the use of sustainable materials throughout the construction and operation phases. I am proud to be part of a project that not only enhances transportation but also contributes to the broader goals of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
