PIL Filed in Bombay High Court to Combat Ticket Scalping and Black Marketing A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking stringent guidelines to prevent ticket scalping and black marketing of online tickets for major events. The PIL, filed  revolves around a major controversy surrounding the sale of Coldplay concert tickets, where bots allegedly secured large volumes of tickets, leaving ordinary consumers with no chance to purchase them fairly. The PIL highlights that the issue of black marketing has worsened due to technological advancements, with bots and botnets being used to bypass restrictions and bulk-buy tickets. This practice has led to tickets being resold at inflated prices on secondary platforms, raising concerns over consumer protection and government revenue. The Petitioner argued the potential involvement of event organizers and ticketing platforms like BookMyShow in facilitating such practices. By way of this petition, the Petitioner has called for the framing of robust guidelines, including the formation of an expert committee led by a retired judge, to regulate online ticket sales and ensure fair access.
