PHS staff were treated to two brilliant talks today as part of the 2024 Speaker Series. We heard from Fiona McKenzie, CEO at CentreStage and David Duke, CEO at Street Soccer Scotland. Both shared their unique perspective and experience in founding their respective organisations and how they have come to support the prevention agenda through arts and sport. This morning was truly inspirational and the NHS can learn a lot from these community-based organisations about what it means to be an anchor institution. I wrote down four things during their talks: 1. Count smiles more – a great tool for evaluation 2. Making all decisions based on the organisation’s values helps keep focus and stays true to the organisation’s purpose 3. You’re not living your values if it doesn’t cost you something. 4. Mindset is everything – focus on what you can do, not all you can’t do.

How many times have movements been pulled apart not because of external forces but because of internal conflict and strife? So often we ask how others can be accountable without first looking internally and asking, "How have I been accountable?" I might still count myself as young but that defo doesn't mean that I know what it's like to be a young person in today's workplace. And the only way I'm going to get to know, is if I take the time to really listen to those that are willing to share. So....
