Today, on #EarthDay, Forum co-published the Business Guide to Advancing Climate Justice with B Lab U.S. & Canada. I had the privilege to help edit this guide, which is for the many businesses who are embracing their role and responsibility in creating equity-centered solutions to the global climate crisis. The guide supports the stories, voices, and wisdom from frontline community efforts. I’m excited to see how the private sector starts to use the guide to advance climate justice in partnership with communities! The guide was an initiative of our American Climate Futures program which aims to ensure the needs and voices of those most impacted by climate change in the US are at the forefront of future climate-related solutions, goal-setting, planning, and development — while also challenging the systemic inequalities that got us here in the first place. I look forward to seeing more great work from this team! #AmericanClimateFutures #ClimateJustice #Report #Business #Guide #EarthMonth #SustainableBusiness #JustandRegenerative #JustTransition

When it comes to #climatejustice, do you think the focus should be shifted even further towards collective action? 💬 Georg Blokus, educator and Berlin Hub director at European Alternatives, emphasizes the lasting importance of collective action in addressing climate issues, as it enables communities to pool resources, share knowledge, and advocate for #systemicchange on a larger scale. During the 2023 Allianz Foundation Summit, Blokus shared insights from his experience in the field. Learn more about our projects on #climatejustice here: https://lnkd.in/dnE7qcaN

I had a chance to attend this webinar today, which included two panels - one focussed on policy the other on business. My big takeaways are: It’s likely the US will leave COP and try to leave the UN framework on climate although it’s unclear if they can legally do the ladder. It’s difficult to predict how Trump will act beyond the rhetoric, but we can anticipate an unstable policy environment and likely less investment in clean energy. It’s better to analyze Trump’s personal business interest and alignments for insight. If you read Project 2025, the future looks more dire as it calls for significant cuts to federal departments and the rescinding of the IRA. While the US presents uncertainty there is certainty in climate change continuing to worsen, and businesses would do well to continue to invest in solutions that they can scale. This isn’t the first time the US has pulled out of global climate agreements, and in the past, we have not seen a bandwagon impact. Countries are concerned with the direction of the economy, which is moving towards renewables and climate action. Cities will continue to push countries to act and will take a bigger leadership role globally. There may be opportunities for Canadian businesses who can recruit talent that is likely to leave the US through this period. There is also an opportunity to compete on execution, timeliness, and regulation in some clean economy, sectors since it’s likely the US will get bogged down in approving any new businesses. It’s going to be important for indigenous businesses to pay close attention to where opportunities might exist in the US. It will take courageous corporations to stay the course and continue to commit to their values by supporting indigenous partnerships and procurement from indigenous businesses.

Climate change is the defining issue of our time, and our response to it underlines every policy decision we make, every pound we invest and every project or service we deliver. It is great to see North Kesteven District Council featured within the report by Climate Emergency UK CIC - the report profiles our ambition for climate action and the role of planning policy in delivering a net zero future for our communities. It also features our initiatives in supporting communities and employers…a collaborative place focused approach to achieving positive change. Our investment programme in housing builds to passivhaus standards, supported by significant investment to retrofit existing properties. Globally the next few years are critical. We need to see a step change in national policy and global action, an emergency response to achieve a 50% cut in emissions by 2030. The window for action is closing fast. Time to champion a just transition to a regenerative, liveable future. You can read more about our approach here: https://lnkd.in/e4ikWdPp. #leadership #localgovernment #climateaction #climatejustice #lincolnshire #sdgs2030

At our AGM last week we were delighted to release a document titled: Climate Change A Just Transition-An Analysis and Roadmap for Dublin's Inner City As part of our strategic planning and consultations for our Strategic Plan 2023-2027 the issue of climate change and a just transition were constant themes. It became clear to us that we needed to research and upskill on these themes and prepare a roadmap for our organisation to guide and direct our work over the coming years. Our research examined how and where climate change and a just transition are relevant in an urban context and in particular for urban based socio-economic disadvantaged communities. The research and writing took us the best part of 12 months. We are confident we now have a comprehensive document that will serve as a climate change and just transition roadmap for the Co-op and our 12 member organisations for several years to come. How have your #companies and #agencies better leveraged existing resources to prepare for #climatechange even amid #political controversy? At the #CarolinasClimateSummit (WFAE), South Carolina Office of Resilience 's Kirsten Lackstrom discussed how the #state is focusing on #adaption, #resilience, and using #InflationReductionAct money to explore carbon reduction pathways and create a baseline for measurement. This is how a #climateresilience office makes progress even without statewide climate #targets. Cc: Alex Osborne-Saponja, Henry McKoy, Kerri Sauer, Rob Yates, Witold Henisz
