📢 UGI Utilities, Inc. is now accepting renewable natural gas (#RNG) from a third landfill facility and is fueling homes and businesses with it. The plant can process up to 9,600 standard cubic feet of landfill gas per minute into RNG - enough gas to heat more than 39,000 homes annually, according to the EPA's Landfill as Energy Benefits calculator. The Consortium for Climate Solutions, which includes MIT and 10 other organizations in Massachusetts, is enabling the development of two new large-scale renewable energy projects in Texas and North Dakota. These projects will add 408 megawatts of renewable energy capacity to the power grid. "Catalyzing these large-scale renewable projects is an important part of our comprehensive efforts to reduce carbon emissions from generating energy. We are pleased to work in partnership with other local enterprises and organizations to amplify the impact we could achieve individually," states MIT's Glen Shor. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dvnMtSt6

The Weald Action Group has responded to the government’s consultation on proposed revisions to the National Planning Policy Framework. We welcome the proposed policies on renewable energy, which “direct decision makers to give significant weight to the benefits associated with renewable and low carbon energy generation”. And point out the NPPF should at the same time reduce the weight given to fossil fuel exploration and extraction. Increasing the weight on one side of the scales, has to mean that the weight given on the other side is reduced in order to achieve the policy goals of the Government. You can see our proposed amendments to the consultation draft here: https://lnkd.in/e-yuuKqn

For our most recent webinar, we welcomed Blake Shaffer (University of Calgary), Leonard Kula (Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA), and independent economist Edgardo Sepulveda to explore the benefits and challenges of market-based approaches to building an electricity system, using Alberta’s unique grid as a case study. Edgardo Sepulveda recently authored a report for the Alberta Federation of Labour recommending that Alberta reimpose economic regulations and create a Crown corporation to balance ownership and mitigate energy price volatility. Want to learn more about the pros and cons of a market-based approach to achieving a net-zero electricity system by 2050?
