Needs ideas of what actions you can take in your org to honor today (and everyday BTW): ✏️ Employee training: Anti-Racism, Micro Aggressions in the workplace ✏️ Talk about the outcomes and impact of DEIB efforts in your business ✏️ Host a Juneteenth celebration in the office and use local Black vendors. A little late for this option but a great idea for next year. Actually, you can hire more local vendors of color for any event you have. ✏️ Internal and external comms. Late to this party too? “I didn’t know what I was doing [college] for.” That’s what Benjamin Moreno told The Wall Street Journal’s Rachel Wolfe. Moreno is not the only twenty-something who has uttered these words. Many students are going through the motions of school, not connecting their curriculum to any sense of purpose.   Aimlessness in school can result in aimlessness at work. When half of all Americans want to quit their jobs, something is wrong. As Richard Reeves told Wolfe, young men like Moreno want to know their capabilities are valued by their families and society. They need more than a paycheck — they need purpose.   Part of the problem is that, for generations, we have told young people the only work that matters comes after earning a four-year degree. Collectively, we have diminished the value of shop floor workers, information technology technicians, homebuilders, and mechanics.    College leads to fulfilling careers for some, but it is not the only path.    Organizations like SkillUp Coalition, Per Scholas, Make It Movement, HBI (Home Builders Institute), and unCommon Construction connect individuals to non-degree paths that leverage each person’s interests and aptitudes, and lead to fulfilling careers.    The good news is Moreno told Wolfe, “I want to try again. And I want it to be for me.”    To help individuals like Moreno, employers, educators, philanthropists, and solution providers need to partner to build other pathways that give young people the chance to discover and develop the skills they need to enjoy a career where their contributions matter.    https://lnkd.in/gdG-bCjy
