It's nice when we find applicants who think like us, act like us, speak like us and laugh at our jokes. Of course, it can be easy to think they're great as they'll fit in so well to our #charities' culture. But could this mindset be limiting your charity's potential 🔄 When we focus on 'cultural fit', we miss out on: 🌍 Diverse perspectives 💡 Fresh ideas 🧠 New ways of thinking Instead of asking "Will they fit in?" Instead, focus on 'cultural ADD' by considering these questions: 🤔 What skills do we currently lack? 🤔 How will they challenge our thinking? 🤔 What new perspectives will they bring? 🤔 What different experiences can they share? 🤔 How will they enhance our existing team? You may find shifting from 'cultural FIT' to 'cultural ADD' will transform your recruitment process and your charity’s future. Afterall, no #charity culture should be stuck in the past. It should grow, evolve, and improve with each new hire. Even after hours, many are weighed down by thoughts of the people they serve, the team they support, and what could be done better. This emotional load can make it hard to fully connect with family and friends, creating feelings of guilt and frustration about not being the partner, mother, or friend they want to be. If this resonates, here are three steps to protect your personal time without sacrificing your passion for your work: Set Clear Boundaries: Establish a defined line between work and home life. Try a small ritual—like a walk or closing your laptop in a special way—that signals your shift into personal time, helping you focus fully on the present. Write It Out: At the end of each day, reflect on what went well and your hopes for tomorrow. Draft a to-do list for the next day, so your thoughts are on paper, not weighing on your mind. Find an Accountability Partner: Connect with a trusted colleague or friend who can help you stick to these boundaries. For those of us who care deeply about others, being accountable to someone else can be a powerful motivator! Your dedication is valuable, but your well-being is essential.
