Our latest poll reveals ongoing concerns surrounding regulatory frameworks and ESG innovation. Alex Di Santo, European Head of Private Equity, said: “The results of this poll highlight the exciting progress being made with emerging technologies within the private capital sector. However, it also shines a light on the regulatory challenges that fund managers are grappling with across different jurisdictions. 💡 Taking ESG Beyond Due Diligence: Post-Investment Support for VC Portfolio Companies While in buyout funds, the practice of ESG value-add has become standard over the last few years, VC has been lagging behind — a missed financial opportunity. As with ESG integration in due diligence, funds in our community are experimenting with where, when, and for whom value-add activities make sense in VC. These examples from thirteen funds, across geographies, fund sizes, and sector focus, show the large variety of ways VCs are helping with: 1. Specific and material ESG lapses identified in due diligence 2. Compliance with existing and future regulation and reporting requirements 3. Designing effective action plans and progress management structures to lock ESG into companies' growth 🙏 Many thanks to our contributors for sharing their insights and best practices: 2150: Peter Hirsch Antler: Rosalind Bazany blisce/: Clara Cohade Cusp Capital: Dr. Carolin Althoff daphni: Damien Didier HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds: Dr. Adrian Fuchs & Claudia Raber Kindred: The Kindred team Lightrock: Mehdi L. Leading the market with #esg and #impact integration within portfolio companies is essential to driving change in the real world. At the end of the day, we all want to promote an equitable society where everyone has access to opportunities and where technology can be a force for good while making superb financial returns. When a #VC such as the ones in this article (Pitango is honored to be amongst them) believe that positive change is also a driver to creating and supporting the best in class companies, and that financial outcomes and returns are linked with good ESG and impact practices, it's a win-win. Thanks VentureESG for highlighting our work and making this knowledge available to all VCs around the world. Remember that ESG and Impact can be created regardless of geographies, domains or stages. Looking ahead to sustainable disclosure regulation by Estia Ryan, Principal & Head of Research at Eka Ventures. 👇 Why it matters.👇 With the EU’s SFDR and the UK's upcoming SDR, fund reporting on impact and ESG is getting real! The regulations demand detailed sustainability disclosures from investment managers and issuers. VCs need to understand these timelines and requirements to stay compliant and avoid greenwashing accusations. Early adoption of these frameworks can also enhance transparency and investor trust. For VCs and LPs, grasping these regulatory shifts is crucial for maintaining credibility and competitive edge in a sustainability-driven market.
