Debate frequently surrounds the topic of aid to Afghanistan's current government aid. While the Taliban government is not officially recognized, engaging with it does not equate to endorsement. Recent reports underscore the dire state of the economy and the insufficient services and humanitarian aid available to the Afghan people. Amidst the multitude of voices with various goals and aspirations, my singular focus remains on saving as many lives as possible. The death of 800 former soldiers raises a critical question: how many more must perish before we take action to save lives or enforce the Doha terms? Consult the SIGAR report; look beyond the hype. The withdrawal of aid could precipitate a catastrophic collapse of the entire country. While some argue this could defeat the Taliban, it would also come at a tremendous cost to innocent lives. The dire humanitarian situation about the displacement of thousands in recent weeks from eastern #AlJazirah state central Sudan  and large areas in #North_Darfur state western #Sudan, is not a result of direct military battles between the #SAF and the #RSF, but rather the result of the systematic barbaric attacks carried out by RSF on those areas. In a recent comprehensive report by the Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR), the violent conflict in #Sudan, notably in the #Darfur region and #Khartoum, has once again raised grave concerns. The report, derived from research and interviews carried out from January to March 2024, contains harrowing accounts of sexual violence and civilian torture by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), along with their affiliates. There is an urgent need for solidarity with those affected in Sudan and for emphasising the necessity of an adequate response from the international community to reflect the seriousness of these atrocities, with the goal of ensuring protection and justice for all involved. #HumanRights https://lnkd.in/eFT3g3Mt

Fikra for Studies and Development on the Escalating Violations and Humanitarian Crisis in Al-Jazirah State November 7, 2024 Fikra for Studies and Development draws the world's urgent and sorrowful attention to the heinous crimes perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against innocent civilians in Al Jazirah State, particularly in the eastern regions of the state. These atrocities have escalated dramatically since October 20, 2024, following the defection and surrender of the commander of the RSF militia in Al Jazirah State Abu Aqala Kikel to the Sudanese Armed Forces. We call on all Sudanese forces in Sudan and the world to work together towards this humanitarian goal, free from narrow political agendas and attempts to exploit this humanitarian issue for the pursuit of self-serving political interests. The ongoing civil war in Sudan, which began on April 15, 2023, due to a power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Force (RSF), has led to severe humanitarian crises, including massive displacement and food shortages. With over 8 million displaced and about 25 million in need of aid, the conflict has worsened conditions, especially in Darfur. The fighting has caused over 16,000 deaths and widespread destruction, while international actors like the UAE and Russia are involved in fueling the conflict. Despite diplomatic efforts, including recent talks and UN resolutions, a resolution remains elusive, highlighting the urgent need for effective international intervention. #Yazda strongly condemns the ongoing and recent Turkish #airstrikes in the #Sinjar region, which have exacerbated the suffering of Yazidi civilians. These attacks undermine the safety and stability necessary for the community's recovery, hinder the return of displaced #Yazidis to their ancestral homeland, and increase the insecurity and instability in Sinjar and in #Iraq. The ongoing military operations pose significant risks to civilian lives and have, in the past, led to tragic losses, including the killing of children. Such incidents highlight the urgent need for all parties to prioritize the protection of civilians and adhere to international humanitarian law and the three fundamental principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution. The CENTCOM/AFRICOM team has analyzed the escalating violence and humanitarian crises in Sudan, with severe implications for regional stability. An aerial strike on December 19 targeted the World Food Program (WFP) compound in Blue Nile State, killing three aid workers and likely delaying vital food and healthcare distributions to vulnerable populations. Meanwhile, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) recaptured the al-Zurug military base in North Darfur on December 22, a strategic victory that will likely fuel retaliatory violence, destabilize governance, and displace civilians. These developments highlight the intensifying risks for aid workers and civilians, as well as the deepening fragmentation of control in conflict zones. Three years after the #military coup, more than three million people are internally displaced in #Myanmar, with significant need for #humanitarian assistance, and people desperate for an end to the violence and mayhem. #Malaysia has made clear its strong opposition to the military coup, and is hosting refugees from Myanmar, including #Rohingya. In my discussions with a diverse group of refugees from Myanmar, as well as with Malaysian Government officials, it was evident that there are high expectations of ASEAN in relation to resolving the current crisis in Myanmar, with #humanitarian aid and #protection of civilians at the forefront, while not losing sight of the need for an urgent solution to an untenable situation. India is shamelessly deepening its complicity in Myanmar military junta’s atrocities by providing arms, equipment, economic assistance and false legitimacy. India ranks as the junta's third-largest arms supplier, contributing USD 51 million since February 2021. Despite hosting approximately 70,000 Myanmar refugees, India has been accused of human rights violations by deporting refugees back to Myanmar, where they face persecution. India must immediately cut all ties with the Myanmar military junta, end all support, including economic engagements and development projects, and ensure legal protection and humanitarian aid for Myanmar refugees.
