#ICIQSeminar | 🙌Thank you Dr. Juan V. Alegre-Requena from ISQCH CSIC for delivering a seminar about the integration of digital chemistry within the broader chemistry community. Advances in hardware and algorithms now enable digital chemistry to tackle complex problems. Automation reduces errors, boosts reproducibility, and supports data storage and reuse AQME is an automated end-to-end workflow software that performs multi-step tasks of computational chemistry ROBERT automates ML-related tasks (data curation, hyperparameter optimization, and ML predictor generation) The combination of these programmes allows for high-quality reaction energy profile studies and ML predictions to be generated with just a few command lines, starting from simple inputs such as databases with SMILES strings. 🔵 Also thanks to our seminar sponsor BASF ICERCA - Centres de Recerca de Catalunya | Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) | SOMM Alliance

If you have ever wondered, ❓ What makes FAIR data so difficult in research, ❓ How do others keep up with the increased pressure for innovation speed, or ❓ What does it mean to do data-driven biological research, I'd warmly recommend to have a look on this white paper: How to make research data your competitive advantage ⤵ The reason why I like this document, is that it clearly explains the challenges and references recent market studies, provides "tick-a-box" action items on key considerations (architecture, governance & solution), and includes real-life industry-specific case studies. A perfect read for biotech R&D and IT leaders & stakeholders. (Let me know if you prefer me to share a pdf version via message, happy to do so)

++++ IPMAI project officially launched ++++ The official kick-off meeting of the IPMAI project took place at the Software Competence Center Hagenberg from 8 to 9 April 2024. IPMAI is a synonym for Interpretable Prescriptive Maintenance using #ArtificialIntelligence. Objective of this project is the development of a new artificial intelligence (AI)-based maintenance strategy for machines with gearboxes. IPMAI's approach is of general applicability because of its AI-generated explanations innovative in terms of user acceptance and because of the use of the gearbox as a general wear indicator. The lead partner of this project is Software Competence Center Hagenberg, which will be working on this innovative topic together with eight other partners from Austria and the Czech Republic over the next three years. The consortium consists of the following organisations: - Software Competence Center Hagenberg GmbH (Leadpartner) - University of Applied Science Upper Austria, Research and Development GmbH - AC2T research GmbH - University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice - College of Polytechnics in Jihlava - Intemac Solutions, s.r.o. - CDP Center for Digital Production GmbH - Business Upper Austria – OÖ Wirtschaftsagentur GmbH - dataPartner s.r.o. This project is co-funded by the European Union within the Interreg Austria-Czechia – programme.

My prediction it would go to Autor, Acemoglu and Katz for skill biased technological change, automation, the computerization of work, etc didn’t win even though Acemoglu did win. Which frankly speaks volumes about Acemoglu because he could win the prize several ways. The 57-page scientific explainer does not mention Autor and the word “skill” is mentioned twice, but never for the things I was linking Acemoglu to. so then that’s two pieces of evidence that Sweden is waiting to give it to Katz for skill biased technological change either alone or with Autor. The first was that that work with Claudia Goldin was never mentioned when she won even though the race between education and technology that they coauthored is her most cited work. And now two, in the Acemoglu, Robinson and Johnson award, the work on skill and automation seems not to be the focus — it’s more for the institutions and global inequality work. so I feel good to guess Autor and Katz safely but I will say if an economist were ever to win it twice, it would be Acemoglu.

The Science System Advisory Group (SSAG) is now seeking submissions for phase one of its consultation process. Submissions are open until 11.59pm Friday 17 May 2024. The SSAG has been established by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to provide advice to the government on strengthening the science, innovation and technology system. In the first phase of consultation, the questions are broad and high-level to allow the SSAG to determine principles that will shape subsequent discussions and calls for future submissions. Group members will consider challenges and aspirations of the many components of the sector, and its structure, efficiency and effectiveness. A two-part report will be developed, with the first part delivered end of June, and the second end of October 2024. The first part will focus on determining principles for the sector moving ahead and providing preliminary advice and recommendations. The second will provide final recommendations and advice on longer-term changes to ensure the future success of the science system in New Zealand. To make a submission please visit ssag.org.nz/submit

Achieving a more rapid time to market, however, can be complicated by lengthy, costly product development cycles; changes in the labor market and talent acquisition strategies; and the highly-regulated nature of this industry. Successful life science organizations must ensure that every step along the product development continuum is carried out as efficiently and effectively as possible, including the development and commissioning of laboratory infrastructure. In this paper, we explore how smart life science technologies combine with digitalization and data-driven services to optimize project timelines, scale up production, support certification efforts, and take products to market rapidly—without compromising on product / research quality or safety.
