With much of the discussions around police recruitment and student officers focused on entry routes, early leavers and inexperience, University of South Wales Policing Lecturer Jack Moss argues that it’s time for a more meaningful and accurate measure of success or otherwise of the Policing Education Qualifications Framework, as well as greater recognition for the efforts and achievements of student officers themselves. ❝As time goes on and more student officers are being recruited, do we know how successful, if at all, the implementation of the Policing Education Qualifications Framework has been in shaping the future of the police service in England and Wales?❞ ❝The announcement in 2022 by the then-Home Secretary Suella Braverman that obtaining a degree would no longer be a requirement of policing added another layer of pressure on those already studying and prospective students.❞ ❝These measures require time to gauge effectiveness. Just as a new drug is assessed based on its long-term effects rather than the immediate reaction, so should the role of education in policing.❞ ❝Many student officers enjoy their role, noting several factors such as the variety of work compared to a mundane 9-5, the camaraderie of being part of a team that is helping make a difference, and having a sense of purpose that comes with the role.❞ https://lnkd.in/eDZiYM_P #lawenforcement #policing #police #student #peqf #traininganddevelopment

A recent study highlighted in The74 shows the positive impact of the #LEARNS Act in Arkansas, significantly increasing starting teacher salaries. This law has boosted funding for rural and high-poverty districts, narrowed the pay gap between rural and urban areas, slightly reduced teacher turnover rates, and made high-needs areas more attractive to new teachers. This progressive reform is a promising step in recognizing the value of educators and the full effects will continue to emerge over time. #Education #TeacherPay #Arkansas #LEARNSAct #EducationReform https://lnkd.in/gydgJQfs

Attention Ohio Educators! Did you know that Ohio teachers, principals, superintendents, and other school personnel must honor their teaching contracts? According to Ohio Revised Code sections 3319.15 and 3314.103, educators have until July 10th to make a decision on their contract for the upcoming academic year. Here’s the deal: Before July 10, teachers can give a five-day notice to their employers Board of Education to properly terminate their contracts. After July 10, educators can only ask their employers Board of Education to be released from their contracts at the discretion of their employers. Failure to comply to the contract termination guidelines, can result in the educators license to be suspended for 1 year. It is up to the discretion of the school’s administration to report an educator to the OhioDepartment of Education as they are not mandated to report. Remember, a teaching contract is a two-way street that provides certainty to teachers, districts, and schools. #EducationMatters #OhioTeachers #ContractDeadline #EducationalJobs #WeAreHiring #JobsForEducators

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE** 10-17-2024 Carmen Bucco Congressional Candidate District 10 NJ Bucco For New Jersey cbucco@carmenbucco.com www.carmenbucco.com 908-499-0117 --- I urge State Lawmakers to Prioritize Education and Prevent Teacher Layoffs Today, I call upon state lawmakers to prioritize the future of our children by preventing teacher layoffs. With the challenging repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic already impacting educational progress, any further disruptions will exacerbate learning loss and could significantly harm our children’s educational outcomes. During the pandemic, students faced unprecedented challenges that hindered their learning experiences, resulting in widespread learning deficits. In light of this, it is crucial that we maintain our dedicated workforce of educators, who are integral to fostering the growth and development of our youth. Teacher layoffs would lead to increased class sizes, decreased individual student attention, and ultimately, more learning loss. Our children have already faced significant educational setbacks due to COVID-19. They cannot afford the additional loss of resources and attention that larger class sizes would entail. It is imperative that we stop failing our children by ensuring they receive the quality education they deserve," said Carmen Bucco I urge state legislators to make informed decisions that support our teachers and uphold the integrity of our educational system. It is through maintaining strong support for our educators that we can secure a brighter, more equitable future for all children. "We must stand resolute with our teachers, valuing their contributions and ensuring that our children’s learning environment is safeguarded from further disruption. @followers @highlight #EssexCounty #EssexCountyNJ #p #Eastorange #EssexfellsNJ #IrvingtonNJ #Montclair #Montclair #MontclairNJ #Newark #NewarkNJ #OrangeNJ #Verona #VeronaNJ #WestOrangeNJ #JerseyCity #JerseyCityNJ #CranfordNJ #KenilworthNJ #LindenNJ #RoselleNJ #RoselleParkNJ #UnionNJ #standwithourheros #BuccoForCongress #PeopleOverPolitics #NJEA

Changes to DBS: Safer Admissions Public Training Workshop for Colleges and Universities - 29th November 2024, 10AM-4PM (Zoom) Is your admissions team prepared for the latest changes to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 and DBS filtering rules? Admissions, Welfare, and Safeguarding staff play a critical role in ensuring a safe, inclusive, and legally compliant admissions process. However, recent updates to the ROA and DBS filtering rules—especially for courses requiring Enhanced DBS checks—mean that significantly less information about applicants' criminal records is being shared with colleges and universities. For instance, a six-month custodial sentence for a serious offence (e.g., sexual offence committed under the age of 18) may only be disclosed for 12 months, while a driving conviction might remain disclosable for 2.5 years if the applicant was under 18. These inconsistencies can pose significant challenges when making informed and safe admissions decisions. At Dominic Headley & Associates (DHA), we specialise in providing expert advice, training, and practical resources on safer admissions, inclusive recruitment, and safeguarding concerns. Our Safer Admissions and Criminal Record Disclosure Training, designed and delivered by Dominic Headley— the UK’s leading criminal records—will equip your team to navigate these complexities confidently. Our training will help your admissions process by: *Ensuring legal compliance with the latest ROA and DBS changes *Balancing fair admissions with safeguarding responsibilities *Providing practical tools and real-world case studies to manage criminal *record disclosures *Updating your policies to meet new legal requirements To help you navigate these complex changes, we're offering a One-Day Safer Admissions Workshop on 29th November 2024 via Zoom. This highly interactive session will give your team the confidence to manage safeguarding risks and promote inclusive admissions. Exclusive Offer: Register by 31st October 2024 and receive a 15% discount! Spaces are limited to 20 delegates, so secure your place now!
