Why December Feels Like a Drain - And How to Plug Back Into Your Energy….. December has a way of draining your energy before you’ve even hit the big day. Between late nights, frantic finishing touches, and all the extra demands of the season, it’s no wonder so many people feel completely run down by Christmas. But here’s the thing: when your energy is running low, everything feels harder. That’s why protecting your energy is one of the best things you can do for yourself this December. Here are three small but mighty ways to recharge your batteries: 1️⃣ Snack Smart The festive treats are everywhere (and I’m not saying don’t enjoy them!), but when it comes to keeping your energy stable, it’s all about balance. Pair quick-release carbs like mince pies or crackers with protein or healthy fats. Or, if you’re after something a little more special, try rosemary-roasted nuts for a flavourful, energy-boosting option. 2️⃣ Hydrate Like a Pro This time of year can be full of boozy drinks and endless cups of coffee, but dehydration is a sneaky energy thief. Aim for at least 1.5–2 litres of water a day to keep your brain and body functioning at their best. If plain water isn’t your thing, herbal teas or a slice of lemon can make it more enjoyable. 3️⃣ Pause to Recharge You don’t need an hour-long yoga session to feel better. Sometimes, just five minutes is enough. A quick breathing exercise can work wonders for resetting your mind and calming the chaos - there’s one in the advent calendar that’s subtle enough to use anywhere, even in the middle of a hectic supermarket queue! “Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.” – Winston Churchill As we gather with loved ones, sip hot cocoa, and watch twinkling lights fill our homes, there’s a certain peacefulness in the air. It’s a gentle reminder to slow down, celebrate the year gone by, and also look inward. Lately, I’ve been returning to Simon Sinek’s idea of “Start with Why.” With 2024 winding down, I find myself asking: What’s my deeper reason? Why do I do what I do? It’s something I’m reflecting on as I consider my goals for 2025. When I tap into my “Why,” the rest of the puzzle seems to click into place—there’s more energy, more clarity, and even more joy in the everyday hustle. The tasks on my to-do list don’t just feel like boxes to tick; they become steps toward something truly meaningful. If you’re like me—taking this season to pause and plan your next move—remember that purpose is the compass that keeps us on course. So pour another cup of eggnog (or coffee), embrace the warmth of the holidays, and give yourself the gift of reflection. As this time of year arrives, it’s common to wish for happiness, prosperity, and the fulfilment of dreams and goals. Without a doubt, expressing these sentiments is meaningful. But why limit it to this season? What if we made this attitude a constant, regardless of the calendar? Often, as 31st December approaches, we place our hopes in the New Year, as if the simple act of turning the page on the calendar could resolve what remains unfinished. This year, I encourage you to take it a step further: instead of “wishing” for things to change, let’s give our very best to transform our surroundings. Let’s move from intention to action. Perhaps, by “doing” rather than just wishing, we’ll see results much sooner than expected.
