I must confess, I have never been a big Grey’s Anatomy fan. Too many times they just get it wrong. However, this clip is one of my favorites. Why? Because I personally lived it as a family member. If Grey’s Anatomy can get this right, so can we. We need to teach all members our healthcare team but especially healthcare providers how to communicate bad news with empathy and compassion. Step 1: “Put down the clipboard” Contact me for support! #TreeOfLifeHealthConsultant #BreakingBadNews #EndOfLifeCommunication #NotASoftSkill #AdvancingPalliativeCare #QualityOfLifeNavigator

As healthcare workers, we meet patients at some of the most vulnerable parts of their lives. They are most likely anxious, afraid, and in pain - a combination for an emotional rollercoaster. In the midst of it all, the patient’s perception is their reality - no matter if we agree with it or not. So how can we better understand our patients as humans, not just a diagnosis? Instead of being reactive, maybe we should change our perspective - “If you could stand in someone else’s shoes, see what they see, hear what they hear, and feel what they feel. Would you treat them differently?” Check out the link below: https://lnkd.in/eZcGvexy

We all just want to be heard.. When working with patients, it’s essential to remember not to take things personally. Often, patients are in pain, worried, or just need to feel heard. Our role is to stay compassionate and focused on how we can help. Next time you face a difficult interaction, try this approach: listen actively, acknowledge their feelings, and refocus on finding solutions. A calm and empathetic response not only helps us serve patients better but also keeps us centered. Let’s show up with empathy, ready to offer support in any way we can. #PatientCare #CompassionateCare #HealthcareLeadership

Great Video from Press Ganey https://lnkd.in/gQdRFtDY Press Ganey addresses emotional care in the Compassionate Connected Care™(CCC) model. The model includes: Acknowledge suffering: We should acknowledge that our patients are suffering and show them that we understand. Body language matters: Non-verbal communication skills are as important as the words we use. Anxiety is suffering: Anxiety and uncertainty are negative outcomes that must be addressed. Coordinate care: We should show patients that their care is coordinated and continuous, and that we are always there for them Caring transcends diagnosis: Real caring goes beyond the delivery of medical interventions to the patient. Autonomy reduces suffering: Autonomy helps preserve dignity for patients. #patientcare #patientexperience #patientsatisfaction #compassion #suffering #autonomy Emerus Holdings, Inc.
