Thrilled to share this exciting TechCrunch coverage of our mission to decarbonize industrial heat! Our Joule Hive Thermal Batteries are transforming how industries store and utilize high-temperature heat, ensuring a cost-competitive shift away from fossil fuels in hard-to-abate sectors like cement and steel manufacturing. As Tim De Chant explains, our technology delivers that heat at 1,800°C, using off-peak, low-cost renewable electricity, all through the power of reimagined fire bricks. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eGgxSWyT Exciting times are ahead as we prepare for our commercial-scale demonstration in 2025, backed by $19M in new funding from our incredible partners. #CleanTech #IndustrialDecarbonization #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #Innovation #ElectrifiedThermalSolutions #IndustrialHeat #Innovation

How can commercial and industrial facilities source reliable and legitimately clean heat and power 24/7 when solar+battery solutions are impractical and/or too expensive? Recently I learned about Mainspring Energy's linear electric generator -- a small scale, high efficiency (46%), multifuel combined heat and power (CHP) technology. In the context of a natural gas utility planning for the future, Mainspring's CHP offers a sustainable and fuel-flexible approach for customers with baseload heat and electrical demand who are also considering their part in the energy transition. Today, CHPs can supply clean electricity and heat to customers all day long when supplied with zero-to-negative-carbon RNG (renewable natural gas) produced by companies like South Jersey Industries from food waste, animal manure, and/or waste agricultural residuals. In the not-too-distant future, fuel-flexible CHPs will also be able to reliably generate electricity and heat for customers supplied with readily available clean hydrogen or whatever other renewably produced fuels inevitably come along. #anaerobicdigestion #foodwaste #organicwaste #sustainability #decarbonization #sustainablesolutions #sustainableenergy #sustainableagriculture #climatechange #climatesolutions #renewableenergy #wastetoenergy #rng #profitability #businessinnovation

My latest for Heatmap! Moving to 24/7 clean electricity could be a major boon for grid decarbonization, but it's causing a kerfuffle among some in the hydrogen industry and grid infrastructure worlds. It's certainly going to require a major shift from the way we do things now.

Have you seen our latest blog? The scale of heat decarbonisation required across Scottish industry to achieve net zero by 2045 is vast. The UK Government has stated its ambition to replace 50TWh of fossil fuels with low carbon alternatives by 2035 – primarily focusing on hydrogen, electrification, and bioenergy to achieve this goal. Penned by Principal Engineer at Reheat | B Corp™, Andrew McGhee, this latest edition to our knowledge bank offers some insights around each approach to industrial energy generation and efficiency, and provides an extended view on bioenergy. https://lnkd.in/dKh4iSXM

We are pleased to announce the publication of our newest case study on the industrial decarbonization project undertaken by RTC Solutions Provider Skyven Technologies, an Energy-as-a-Service company with a mission to decarbonize industrial process heat, and California Dairies, Inc., the largest member-owned milk marketing and processing cooperative in California. CDI and Skyven completed a total of six decarbonization projects across CDI’s two largest facilities in 2023. The projects deployed three renewable thermal technologies: solar thermal systems, smart steam traps, and boiler heat recovery systems. Skyven and CDI expect the projects to avoid approximately 7,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions and over 110,000 MMBtu of natural gas consumption each year. These results support CDI’s goals to achieve a 30% reduction in direct and supply chain greenhouse gases by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. Download the case study to find out more about how the project started, what it took to bring it to fruition, key outcomes, and lessons learned: https://lnkd.in/gFWajzm5 #decarbonization #industrialprocessheat #renewablethermalenergy #solarthermal #smartsteamtraps #boilerheatrecovery #solutionsprovider

It’s great that our investment in Rondo Energy is getting some positive attention! Thermal heat storage will play an important role in decarbonising our industry, as we aim to #electrifyeverything as practically as possible. But as Dr. Vidhura Ralapanawe has noted, the editors choice of “push” in the headline is a poor choice of words. And wasn’t something anyone at H&M has said, so please hold your criticism on this. Thermal heat storage is already being used in China to decarbonise steam, and we are exploring all opportunities to further expand this technology to help factories meet their unique and site-specific decarbonisation challenges. https://lnkd.in/gKZdAeVQ

Industry electrification is increasingly feasible. Excellent article on how to get moving on this huge opportunity.
I often hear that the electrification of industrial heat is not feasible, with concerns typically centered around the technology not being ready or the costs being prohibitively high. The good news is that the case for electrification is improving! In our latest article, my colleagues Ken Somers, Joris van Niel, Chiara Magni, and I discuss how: (1) The technology is already available, particularly for low and medium temperature heat, and (2) The economics are improving, thanks to the continued decline in renewable energy prices and price arbitrage options enabled by thermal storage technologies While challenges remain (check out Jan Rosenow's insightful post on this topic - link below), significant progress is being made, and overall I am optimistic about the progress in the industrial heat electrification.
