One quick branding element that loads of breweries seem to forget about… Ever wonder what makes some breweries instantly recognisable, even if their name isn’t plastered all over their message? It’s not just their logo or colour scheme—it’s their tone of voice! Surprisingly, this is a secret ingredient that loads of breweries overlook in their branding. Think about it. If you came across a piece of text with no brewery name attached, could you tell who’s speaking? For most breweries, the answer is probably no. But imagine being so distinctive that people know it’s you just from your words—that’s powerful branding! **Here’s a Fun Tip:** If your brewery were a celebrity, who would it be? Pick someone with a voice that really stands out, like Ryan Reynolds or Sir Ian McKellen. Not exactly mimicking their voice, but think about the vibe they give off. What makes them unique? Is it their humour, their elegance, or maybe their boldness? **Why Does This Matter?** Creating a unique tone of voice can set your brewery apart in a crowded market. It’s not just about what you say, but how you say it that can resonate with your audience. And the best part? This doesn’t cost a penny. If your brewery were a celebrity, who would it be? There are few certainties in life: birth, death, taxes, and The Brand Weaver (Tim) overthinking his bio until it almost implodes. Yet, here’s a bio! Born in a lab under the watchful eyes of mad scientists (think wild grey hair and maniacal laughs), The Brand Weaver was an accidental result of an experiment gone slightly awry. Instead of better buttering toast, they created a branding guru. Emerging from his test tube amidst a dazzling explosion, The Brand Weaver was destined to help businesses dominate their markets. With over 15 years of experience and a client list featuring big hitters like DC Comics, Warner Brothers, and Kamado Joe, he’s mastered the art of captivating audiences and crafting standout brands—think a Cannibal Corpse fan at a Harry Styles gig! Why rebrand your brewery when things are going well? — NoDa Brewing (one of North Carolina's largest, most beloved breweries) was defying industry trends and growing over the last several years. But they had a sense that things could be better: That their positioning could be more succinct, that their packaging could tell a more cohesive story and work harder in retail, that they could reach out to new drinkers without losing sight of their long time fans. This is a solid brief, but with a lot at stake. If you mess this sort of brand refresh up, all that precious momentum you’ve got going grinds to a halt. But if you get it right, you’re in a position to keep growing no matter what the world throws at us over the coming years. — NoDa was gracious enough to let us share all the behind-the-scenes thinking and work that went into making their refresh happen. This was a fun project all around, that included travel, competitive set audits, Brand Strategy, a subtle identity evolution and a big swing on packaging. Crack open an ice cold Hop Drop and read the entire case study. (Link in comments)
