Very happy to launch our last EfVET Magazine issue for 2024, focused on the bridging role that VET ecosystems play, between worlds, cultures, generations. "The ecosystem paradigm forms the core of the mission of VET", says Joachim James Calleja in the editorial. Reflecting on an unforgettable experience at the ECPAT International Global Workshop, Vienna. Last week brought a completely new experience for me, offering rich learning from every angle. I was privileged to attend the first global workshop organised by ECPAT International, where we explored an often overlooked but crucial aspect of sustainable tourism: Child Protection. What truly stood out was the diversity of voices in the room—23 experts from 16 countries, each bringing their unique perspectives, experiences, and passion for change. We came together with a shared mission to integrate child protection into tourism education, ensuring future generations are better equipped. From Australia to Nepal, the UK to Cambodia, and the USA to Sri Lanka, this group represented a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds, yet a common goal united us. The passion, openness, and depth of discussion were inspiring. It was incredible to witness how quickly connections were formed, with participants eagerly diving into discussions, unafraid to challenge ideas, get to the root of issues, and share practical solutions. The exchange of knowledge and perspectives was a constant energy source, and each interaction left me with something new to think about. The workshop itself was an intense but rewarding experience. Many thanks to Guillaume Landry, Gabriela Kühn and Noeleen Advani. From 9 to 5, we were fully immersed, with not a moment feeling wasted. The structure was designed to keep us on our toes, pushing us to dig deeper and think beyond the obvious. Every conversation felt meaningful, every task was purposeful, and I left each session feeling like we were collectively moving closer to real, actionable solutions. It was a rare environment where everyone’s contribution was valued, and it felt like we were all building something together. Being part of such a diverse and intelligent group has humbled and inspired me. This workshop reminded me that change is possible when passionate, committed people come together with a common purpose to advocate for sustainable tourism that safeguards our most vulnerable.
