Higher education is a journey 🗺️, not a destination. 📌 And just like any successful journey, it requires a roadmap – a well-defined academic plan that guides students toward their goals. A University of Chicago study found that students with an academic plan were 40% more likely to achieve their academic goals. That's a powerful statistic that highlights the transformative impact of planning. But effective academic planning is more than just choosing classes; it's about: 🎯 Setting SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound goals provide a clear direction and a sense of purpose. 🕒 Mastering Time Management: Creating a realistic study schedule, utilizing effective time management techniques, and prioritizing tasks are essential for balancing academic demands with other commitments. 🧠 Embracing Active Learning: Improving reading comprehension, note-taking skills, and test preparation techniques can significantly enhance academic performance. A University of Minnesota study found that students who improved these skills scored 25% higher on exams. And the National Survey of Student Engagement found that 92% of students who utilized academic support resources reported higher levels of academic confidence and a 15% GPA increase. These and more insights as the following can be read in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/ei24Dci6 It’s worth mentioning that Edular, our platform, can empower your institution to support students in their academic planning journey. Empowering students to reach new heights in their academic journey! 🎓 Study techniques for college students: Retrieval Practice: Engage in activities like practice tests, creating your own questions, and using flashcards to quiz yourself without looking at notes. Spaced Practice: Study over a longer period instead of cramming, allowing your brain to make connections between ideas and build upon knowledge. SQ3R Method: Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review method helps in reading comprehension by identifying important facts and retaining information. Active Engagement: Actively engage with the material by creating study guides, teaching the information aloud, deriving examples, creating concept maps, and developing symbols to represent concepts. Study Spaces: Choose the right study environment based on your needs, whether it's a quiet space for deep reading or an area for group work and collaboration. Study Cycle: Preview, Attend, Review, Study, and Assess - a 5-step approach to studying effectively and creating a regular habit for studying. Avoid Cramming: Plan ahead, set goals, and stick to a study schedule to avoid last-minute cramming, which is less effective for long-term learning. Ask for Help: Seek assistance from professors, tutors, and classmates when facing challenging material, as seeking help is common and beneficial in college. Use the Buddy System: Form study groups with classmates to explain material to each other, quiz one another, and provide support through challenges. Find Your Learning Style: Experiment with different study methods to discover what works best for you, incorporating metacognition to understand your cognitive processes. These techniques, when applied consistently and tailored to individual learning styles, can enhance learning, retention, and academic success in college. #academicadvisor #HigherEducation #StudentSuccess

🚨 Why Attending Classes Matters: The Importance of Balancing Academic Learning and Extracurricular Activities 🚨 In today’s fast-paced world, students often face the dilemma of attending classes vs. skipping them for workshops, events, or holidays. But is it okay to make that trade-off regularly? Here’s what scientific evidence says: 🔍 Active Learning = Better Results Classrooms promote active engagement through discussions, real-time feedback, and group work. Research shows that students who regularly attend classes tend to retain information better and perform higher academically. 🎯 Structured Learning Classes provide the discipline, structure, and consistent progression needed to master complex concepts. Skipping class too often disrupts this learning flow and may lead to gaps in understanding. 🤝 Peer Interaction & Collaboration Learning is not just about absorbing information—it’s about collaboration. Studies suggest that peer-to-peer interaction in classrooms helps improve problem-solving and critical thinking skills. 📈 Attendance = Academic Success The data is clear: students who attend class regularly see better outcomes. A Review of Educational Research study found a direct correlation between attendance and higher final grades. 💡 Workshops & Events: A Balancing Act While workshops and extracurriculars are valuable, they should complement—not replace—academic learning. Universities should structure events outside of class hours and prioritize a balanced approach that supports both academic and personal growth. 🔑 The Bottom Line Attending class is crucial for academic success. Universities should encourage holistic development through events and activities, but not at the cost of disrupting lectures. The key is balance! 🎓 #HigherEducation #Learning #UniversityLife #AcademicSuccess #StudentEngagement #Workshops #ExtracurricularActivities #Balance #ProfessionalDevelopment

However, there’s more to it than just shortening terms. As Laura Hunter from Ad Astra notes, 'You can’t just condense the material. It does require a little bit more of instructional design.' Are colleges ready to invest in program alignment, retention strategies, and pedagogy? https://lnkd.in/gz_Pax2a #highered #edtech #studentsuccess #onlinelearning #highereducation #collegesuccess #educationforall #adultlearners #nontraditionaleducation #retentionstrategies #emchat #studentsupport
