📑 A study from the University of Exeter showed that students and faculty who design their own workspaces experience increased happiness, health, and productivity 🤗. This highlights the importance of empowering individuals to create learning environments that meet their specific needs. Edular's flexible customizable features can facilitate this personalized approach to space management. Furthermore, research indicates that inefficient space utilization can lead to significant financial losses for universities. For example, in the UK, the deficit per student is projected to widen to £4,000 due to tuition fee freezes. Edular's data-driven insights can help institutions identify areas for improvement and optimize resource allocation, contributing to cost savings and a more sustainable financial model. Just think for a moment about a platform that adapts to the evolving needs of a modern campus, creating a more efficient, engaging, and sustainable learning environment… 👉 That right there is what Edular has to offer: https://lnkd.in/grtsVbjR #highered #facilitiesmanagement #spaceoptimization #edtech #studentsuccess

📄 A study by Craig Knight and Alexander Haslam at the University of Exeter in England showed that designing your own workspace has a positive impact on your happiness, health, and productivity. That’s why is said that by empowering students to create their ideal study or work environment, institutions can enhance student satisfaction and well-being, contributing to a more positive and productive campus culture. After all, creating an exceptional student experience is paramount. But with rising costs, limited resources, and evolving student expectations, institutions are facing a growing challenge: optimizing campus space and resources to meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic student body. 🤔 How can institutions create a campus environment that is both efficient and engaging, maximizing the value of their existing space while providing students with the resources they need to thrive? 💡 The key lies in embracing a strategic and data-driven approach to space management, leveraging technology to gain insights, streamline processes, and empower students. #HigherEd #CampusSpace #SpaceOptimization #StudentExperience #EdTech

It's great to see the juxtaposition of old and new architecture, sparking thoughts on the evolving landscape of universities. Boldness and innovation are key in standing out and attracting attention in today's competitive environment. During today's visit to a university, I was impressed by their approach to uniqueness. By incorporating an employability module alongside multiple optional modules, they are empowering their students to stand out and increase their employability. It's time for universities to step out of the ordinary and embrace their distinctiveness as learning environments. Let's encourage more institutions to focus on being unique rather than just surpassing their competitors in the same areas. #University #Innovation #UniqueLearning #EmployabilitySkills

Request for student participation! My student survey - linked here - already has responses from students at 61 campuses, primarily in the US, Canada and UK. Preliminary insights related to virtual/ hybrid/ in-person learning are surprising, mainly from the POV of how students are receiving this learning and how it shapes their campus experience. Please share this survey so we can learn from a wider group of students! And comment below if you'd like to receive inferences from my ongoing design research. https://lnkd.in/gpUSgDax #futureofcampus #designresearch #architecturematters

Our research report, Vibrant and Viable Campus: designing a culture-led recovery, highlights the significant opportunities for universities to future-proof assets and build resilience — economic, social, cultural, and environmental — into the campus master planning process. According to Hassell Principal and author of the report Adam Davies, bringing students and teaching staff back together and reviving campus culture should be a priority for learning institutions. “We must refocus our attention on the campus’s role in attracting and retaining talent,” says Davies. “The conversation must include the campus experience and the role that teaching and learning, research facilities and student infrastructure play in getting people back on campus more often and keeping them there longer.” 🔗 Download the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gVvjihpV 🔗 Read Adam's interview with Campus Review: https://lnkd.in/gynPFX-B 📷 Photography: UQ Student Central by Scott Burrows #CampusDesign #EducationAndScience #CampusLife #PlacesPeopleLove

The future of higher education is undeniably hybrid, seamlessly blending in-person and virtual learning to create a more flexible, accessible model that’s redefining the way that universities function. In the years following the pandemic, research has uncovered a nuanced shift in students' preferences. Gensler’s 2023 Education Index highlights a crucial trend: while there has been a growing desire for more on-campus experiences, with 45% of students preferring a fully on-campus experience, the majority of students, educators, and staff now seek a hybrid or virtual model, which doesn’t necessarily mean off-campus, but from other dedicated learning spaces. In this blog, we explore the key trends in modern education design and how universities can meet these challenges head-on! - https://lnkd.in/eumciT_Q #Insights #Education #Design #Spacestor

So far in 2024, 75 percent of life science leasing activity has taken place in what was originally constructed as Class A office space (according to Cushman & Wakefield). Additionally, universities are looking to expand STEM curriculums, but campus space is often at a premium. That’s why Trend No. 1 is Renovations and Conversions. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to these project types, which is why we work with owners and developers to understand the complexities and key conversion points of a building to reduce potential for error. Stay tuned as we dive into the top three trends in the Science + Technology sector. Fascinatingly, our data paints a vivid picture: a staggering 79% of the 200 respondents express strong dissent regarding the perceived adequacy of public awareness and education concerning space pollution. The prevailing sentiment among respondents is clear: there is a widespread perception of inefficiency in education regarding the issue at hand.

Universities are navigating a rising tide of challenges. From COVID recovery and government-imposed caps to outdated infrastructure no longer meeting modern needs, the challenges are clear. Add in the complexities of post-pandemic student and staff preferences for on-campus versus hybrid learning, and it's evident that universities must rethink how they plan for the future. In this article, SPP colleagues Craig Lofts and Ben A. explore how universities can leverage activity-based working principles to rethink infrastructure and capital planning. By aligning key activities with the right spaces, universities can create adaptable environments that meet evolving needs. They also discuss shifting approaches to decision-making and infrastructure scoping that can help teams better navigate the current landscape. https://lnkd.in/gBNChEfY #HigherEducation #UniversityChallenges #PostCovidRecovery #HybridLearning #FutureOfWork
