Earlier this year, specialized ship manager Chemfleet confirmed that the IMO II tanker YM Miranda had achieved around 10% in fuel savings after replacing the ship’s existing control system with BERG’s MPC800 technology. Chemfleet has decided to upgrade three additional 6,970 dwt sisterships with Berg MPC800M control system onboard, in a solution that will also integrate Berg’s Dynamic Drive Software. Other recent examples where BERG’s Dynamic Drive technology has been specified include the Shipsveerf Ferus Smit B.V project to build 10 newbuildings for Erik Thun Group. Here, the integrated drive solution has been selected on the basis of its ability to help save 10% of fuel, rising to 20% in some operational conditions, across four 5,100 dwt ’Troll-Max’ dry cargo vessels and six 7,999 dwt coastal ‘Eco Tankers’.

Rising capital expenditure and maintenance requirements in the #offshore #oil, #gas and #renewables sectors is increasing demand for offshore support vessels (#OSVs), but there is limited availability in the global fleet. Supply of modern #vessels, especially those built since 2014, is tightening and very few are expected to enter the market this year, while even fewer have been ordered from shipyards. DOF board member and Offshore Opex owner and managing director Harry Knox warned that while the market requires newbuilds, rising costs and limited yard availability remain very real concerns. He spoke about the strengthening market and these challenges in an exclusive interview during our Annual OSJ Conference, in London, in February. He stressed the overriding sense of positivity that pervades at present, while noting how this optimism can be seen across all stakeholders, from financiers to owners and charterers. LNG Bunkering Summit 2024 North America, Fort Lauderdale, Florida: Justin Slater, VP of Business Development, Commercial and Green Markets at Fincantieri Marine Group, and a panel of industry experts discuss design standards for LNG barges operating in the United States. "The U.S. LNG bunkering vessel business is very important to FBS as it remains our strongest near-term market," said Slater. "Ten or more additional bunkering vessels will be required to support the industry. We have built three of the five U.S. bunkering barges; all are performing great, and we are the U.S. market leader." This was Fincantieri Marine Group’s third year participating in the conference, and this year, FMG was the Lead Shipyard Sponsor. Thanks to Justin Slater and the panelists for publicly leading this important initiative. With the rise of LNG (natural and bio) as an alternative fuel choice, we believe this market will continue to play a vital role in maritime operations as we strive for a greener future on board. #Fincantieri #LNG #FutureOnBoard #Sustainability

DUAL-FUEL #VESSELS ALLOW FOR #LNG OR #METHANOL PROPULSION. Danish giant A.P. Moller - Maersk has taken its burgeoning interest in #LNG as a #marine #fuel to the next level. #Methanol pioneer Maersk spreads future fuel bet with latest newbuilding play. It has an enquiry to shipyards for a string of container ship newbuildings for its own account and charters on tonnage that could give it a fleet of at least 22 #LNG dual-fuelled #vessels. https://lnkd.in/etdtdTpV

“What operators can do today is focus on operating current assets more efficiently by incorporating fuel-saving technologies into ships, says Ms Trauth. She highlights air lubrication, shaft generators and rotor sails among those technologies.” Karrie Trauth, SVP of Shipping & Maritime at Shell, reinforced the importance of maritime clean technologies such as air lubrication systems in a recent interview with John Snyder, Managing Editor of Riviera Maritime Media Ltd. By championing operational and vessel efficiency improvements, alongside the use of cleaner fuels, Shell continues to drive maritime decarbonisation forwards. We would like to thank Karrie for the shout-out of air lubrication technology. Shell has long shown its confidence in the Silverstream® System and its commitment to pioneering proven clean technologies within shipping. This year, we are celebrating 10 years of partnership since we first started collaborating with Shell and we appreciate the progress we’ve made together. Shell was a trailblazer and early adopter of our air lubrication technology back in 2014, when we first installed our system on a Shell vessel. In addition to Lloyd’s Register, HSVA, the University of Southampton and Carnival, Shell also independently verified the fuel and emissions savings the Silverstream® System generates. In 2020, Shell installed the Silverstream® System on the Methane Patricia Camila LNG carrier, which marked the first time Silverstream had installed a system on this ship type. The system was retrofitted on the 170,000 cbm LNG carrier during its planned dry docking at the Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Shipyard in Singapore. There are now 15 LNG carriers with our technology installed and 55 LNG carriers in our global orderbook. According to a report from TradeWinds, A.P. Moller - Maersk has recently made enquiries to shipyards about building a series of 12 new LNG dual-fuelled container ships of around 16,000 teu. The leading shipowner is also reported to have lined up time charters on at least 10 new LNG dual-fuelled container ships. While we see the benefits of alternative fuels, we are focusing on LNG and liquefied biomethane (LBM). LNG supply infrastructure has matured over 60 years of safe operations with LNG currently available all around the world, it is both cost competitive and offers immediate emissions reductions. And more importantly, liquefied biomethane (LBM) and then renewable e-methane both benefit from this strong LNG foundation. Green fuel availability and the LNG pathway’s emissions head start appear to be two of the reasons for Maersk exploring other alternative fuels than methanol. As TradeWinds stated: “The company is aiming to run its methanol dual-fuelled boxships on green methanol and has been investing in its own production of the alternative fuel. But until these supplies emerge at volume, Maersk is faced with running the vessels on grey methanol or very low-sulphur fuel oil, neither of which will match LNG’s 20% CO2 emissions reductions.” Get in contact to find out more about LBM bunkering and read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dGC74Hmb (€) #AlternativeFuels #EnergyTransition #LNG #LBM #Shipping

📢 New contract announcement! MARFLET MARINE S.A., one of Spain’s longest standing private shipping companies, has signed a contract with us for the installation of four 22-meter-high eSAILs® on the oil and chemical tanker Santiago I. And guess what? They are the first Spanish merchant fleet shipowner to adopt wind propulsion on their fleet! 🏆 As part of Marflet’s ongoing decarbonisation strategy, the installation will enable Santiago I to dramatically reduce conventional fuel use and emissions. Depending on vessel routing and operations, this should save around 10-15% of annual energy consumption by reducing the main engine loads. 🗣 “This is a very significant contract for us, not only because Marflet is the first Spanish merchant fleet shipowner to join the wind revolution, but also because with this contract, we reinforce our position as the preferred solution for tankers,” comments José Miguel Bermúdez Miquel, CEO, bound4blue. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project! 👀🚢 🔗 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dkC3wcWg #windpropulsion #shipandshipping #InnovationFund
