🌟Foundations for Shaping a Flashy and Confident Heel.🌟 Do you ever envy dogs who heel perfectly, often looking up at their handlers with admiration? Do you wish you could train your dog to do that too? Perhaps your dog enjoys the pivot platform, but you need help with how to transition to a finished heel position without any handler 'help'. My favorite method to teach heeling is through shaping. Since heeling consists of numerous skills such as head position, gait, and rear-end awareness, I prefer to teach each skill separately and then combine them to achieve confident heeling. Pro Tip 📣: Begin your heeling training by shaping your dog's rear movement on a pivot platform. This exercise is designed to teach your dog how to make snappy turns, maintain a straight heeling position, and assist in finishing positions. #prance #fuss #heelwork #obedience #dogtraining #dogsport #hundsport #igpdogsport #prancing #bigdogsofinstagram #ponylove #petsofinstagram #beautifuldog #workingdog #bestfriend #psak9official #psak9 #workingdogs #k9 #protectionsportsassociation #germanshepherdsofig #workingdogtraining

Saddle Fit - When is it Contributing Factor to Horse and Rider Issues Saddle fit is a hugely important factor in creating a harmonious and comfortable horse and rider experience. What are the considerations for saddles and saddle fit? Saddles are inanimate objects that come in a huge variety of brands, sizes and designs. Saddles will only perform as intended if they fit BOTH the horse and rider, AND the other elements of the training program are in place - hoof balance, rider posture, rider skill, bit/bridle fit, free of injury etc. How do you vet saddles and saddle fitters? What is the difference between a saddle seller and a saddle fitter? What questions should you ask when interviewing a saddle seller/fitter? These are all very important questions to ask and answer if you want to have a situation that will work for you and your horse. Our lead saddle fitter, Georgie Welge, of Master Saddle Fitters International has demonstrated her knowledge, passion and commitment to this topic time and time again. As a key part of our educational platform, her blogs, webinars and online course can help guide you on the path to this key part of your development program. 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 ⭐ Today, let's talk about the importance of a properly fitted saddle! A correctly fitted saddle ensures your horse's comfort and prevents pain and injury. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸: 𝟭. 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Place the saddle on your horse's back without a saddle blanket. There should always be a clear space at the wither and along the spine. You should see daylight from the pommel through the gullet to the back of the saddle. This ensures the saddle isn't pressing on your horse's sensitive spinous processes. Check wither clearance again when the rider is mounted, as the fit can change under weight. 𝟮. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The deepest point of the seat should be in the centre of the saddle. This allows the rider to sit in the middle, avoiding being pushed forward or backward. 𝟯. 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀: The girth points should hang straight down. This prevents the saddle from being pulled forward or backward when the girth is tightened. 𝟰. 𝗙𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵: Check the saddle fit both with and without the girth, as the pressure will change once the girth is applied. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: It's crucial to seek help from a qualified saddle fitter. As a guideline: - 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸-𝘂𝗽𝘀: Have the saddle fit checked every six months. - 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀: Refit new saddles after three months. - 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Consider seasonal checks, as your horse’s shape can change with diet, weather, and workload. Ensuring your saddle fits well is a key part of your horse’s welfare. Don't hesitate to consult with a professional. ⭐This information is adapted from Pony Club Australia's rider manuals, which members study on the way to achieving their proficiency certificates. #PonyClubAustralia #PonyClubProud #ALifeWithHorsesStartsHere

Horse and Rider Interactions - What Does Success Look Like? Defining success has different meanings to different people. Is success based on what you accumulate in material things? Is quantity more valued than quality? How does this apply in the world of equestrian sport and the horse world in general? What does the ethical treatment of horses mean? In a world where temptations to win at all costs, trample on others to get what we want, bend the rules, justify actions that compromise others etc., are all around us, we must surely start asking, what moral and ethical code do we want to abide by in our lives to keep us grounded in what really matters. When it comes to our horses, what keeps us grounded in preserving their physical, mental and emotional well being as a priority? What keeps us committed to learning how they work and what their needs are - from their perspective? What does horse welfare mean - to the horse? Over the years, we have sought, and continue, to seek answers to these questions so that we can guide those seeking excellence in their horsemanship - again, from the horse's perspective? If your horse could talk, what would they say about their physical, mental and emotional well being? When we met Alexis MV 5 years ago, and saw how she trained and competed her horses with the kinds of philosophies and methodologies that are so aligned with our Vision and Mission, we asked her to impart the cornerstones of her approach. We are delighted that she agreed and put a tremendous amount of thought and time into the ten classes she put together for us to serve as a guide for others. If you are looking for a foundation on which to build a successful horse and rider journey, from your horse's perspective, then this series is sure to give you the tools you need. On sale for the price of a lesson, with lifetime access, this will be a resource to lean on and keep you grounded.
