Collaborate and get funding to prepare for securing a Horizon Europe grant Horizon Europe is the largest ever EU Framework Programme for research and innovation, with a budget of over €95bn (2021–2027, excluding contributions from Associate Countries). Such EU programmes offer significant opportunities to access new knowledge, partners, markets, customers and suppliers. Awards of up to £10k are available to develop collaborative activity between UK and EU/Associated Countries’ entities in Pillar 2 of Horizon Europe. Pillar II moves beyond the societal challenges familiar under Horizon 2020, tackling major global challenges and addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which aim to ‘improve people’s lives and to protect the planet for future generation’. Six clusters related to the sectors which Horizon Europe funded is aimed for. Clusters 5 and 6 cover Climate, Energy, Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment. UK companies have a strong track record of securing funding from EU research and innovation programmes, including Horizon 2020. Details of the Horizon Europe Pump Priming award can be found below: https://ow.ly/oFS650QXtwg

Join us for Bioethics Breakfast Club: The impact of high-impact research with Joshua LaBaer, Executive Director, Biodesign Institute, and Professor, School of Molecular Sciences and Neal Woodbury, Vice President, Chief Science + Technology Officer and Professor, Knowledge Enterprise. The #ASU Charter calls for "advancing research and discovery of public value." University design aspirations include "Value Entrepreneurship" and "Conduct Use-Inspired Research." The National Science Foundation was created after WWII to support early stage research and yet its newest directorate, Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP), "advances critical and emerging technologies, accelerates use-inspired and translational research..." This emphasis on getting outside the ivory tower surely captures some valuable and transformational aspects of the power of science. But, where does it leave research that doesn't have direct, measurable impacts? What is the viability and place for basic, or fundamental, research in the twenty-first century? Wednesday, March 20, 2024. 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. (MST) Life Science Center C-Wing, LSC 202.

Science is not for scientists only! 🧬 The #Know4Nano project officially kicked off on October 1st, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of this cutting-edge initiative! Coordinated by BioSense Institute and my colleague Vasa Radonic and funded by #HorizonEurope, Know4Nano brings together great minds from across Europe. 🚀 We were delighted to welcome our project partners to the BioSense Institute, including representatives from: Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) 🇪🇸, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche 🇮🇹 and University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (UCT Prague)🇨🇿. It was a fantastic opportunity to collaborate in person and define next steps. The project’s mission? To revolutionize the way we approach food safety by developing innovative biosensors that can detect foodborne pathogens at every stage of the farm-to-fork chain. This isn’t just about technology—it’s about harnessing nanotechnology to make our food systems safer and smarter! 💪🏻 As the leader of Work Package 6, I’m excited to take charge of Communication, Dissemination, and Outreach, making sure that the incredible work we will be doing reaches communities, researchers, industries far and wide, and general public. 🙌🏽 #HorizonEurope #Innovation #BiosenseInstitute #Nanotechnology #FoodSafety #ScienceCommunication #FutureFood
