Insightful stimulating paper from Kristian Sevdari et al. “However, in my view, the main question is how to increase the utilization rate of fast charging stations and make them future-proof. […] “ “Our study explores centralized power modules that dynamically allocate charging power, ensuring greater efficiency and reducing wasted resources.” IMHO the role of “dynamic resource” allocation and/or management” will be a central feature of the transformed Energy System in a high VRE (FRE)*, CER & DER world. The intersection of CER (the EV) with DER (the public EVSE) will be one of particular importance. DOE - Dynamic Operating Envelopes - will play a critical role whether it is facilitating the consumers management of their energy OR when using supporting facilities (like public EVSE) away from home. 🌍 Enhancing EV Adoption with Smarter Fast Charging Solutions 🚗⚡ Excited to share insights from our recent research on Stochastic Modelling of Fast DC Charging Stations presented at the International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies! There is a big discussion on the design of fast charging stations "satellite vs all-in-one approach". You can see how different manufacturers choose one over the other depending on the user's needs. Also, the choice of the power modules (20, 25, 30, 35,...,50 kW) differs from manufacturers. However, in my view, the main question is how to increase the utilization rate of fast charging stations and make them future-proof. With future-proof I also mean adding new plugs to the existing power capacity. Our study explores centralized power modules that dynamically allocate charging power, ensuring greater efficiency and reducing wasted resources. As EV adoption accelerates, innovations like these are key to decarbonizing transportation and enhancing user experience. We introduced a centralized power module system, dynamically adjusting power based on EV demand. Results show that for stations with higher traffic, the model ensures up to 87% customer satisfaction, and when capacity is doubled, this increases to over 99%. This optimization helps minimize resource waste and improve EV charging efficiency. Thus, a takeaway for the fast charging station operators- it is wise to choose a technology that can dynamically optimize the charging demand and be flexible to future plug upgrades. The most challenging thing is and will remain grid capacity. A smart way to serve more customers with the existing grid capacity will be beneficial in the long run. We're thrilled to announce the launch of our DC PowerUp Charger - our cutting-edge solution to relieve fleet reliance on grid infrastructure. > Up to 128kWh Battery-buffer allows any site to operate as a DC charging location > Charging up to 120kW > Rapid deployment (plug & play installation) Philip Clarke, CEO and Founder of TUAL: “For enterprise fleets looking to electrify, grid energy capacity often presents a significant barrier to a cost-effective transition; our analysis indicates that 80% of locations that fleets want to charge commercial vehicles have constrained or absent grid connections. Upgrading local grid capacity can be a hugely cost- and time-intensive process, which is something that fleets – and indeed the industry – simply cannot afford in the short- and long-term. Vehicle decarbonisation needs to make significant progress today, and smart technologies are needed to make that happen. That is what TUAL’s Boost Charger solution represents, and makes us ideally suited to helping fleets get the power they need to succeed, wherever and whenever they need it.” First units are scheduled for deployment in January - please contact us hello@tual.io or read the press release at

No doubt, electric vehicles are the future, but #Utilities are asking: Will our power #Grid be able to handle the increase in electric vehicle adoption? Traditionally, when utilities had a rise in #Energy consumption from their customers, they would expand their distribution #Infrastructure. But the idea of adding more distribution infrastructure is no longer sufficient due to several reasons. To summarize, EVs are far too complex for this traditional solution. To tackle this challenge of #EV growth on the grid, utilities can leverage distributed intelligence. One key advantage of distributed intelligence is that it provides utilities with real-time insights into their customers EV charging patterns. Kudos Don Reeves and your Itron, Inc. Team on the huge impact you have in our world. I’ve long been excited by the promise of distributed intelligence for distribution automation and for the potential to optimize how we generate, manage, store and consume electricity. I first used an Itron datacap in the 1980’s. I’ve loved seeing the innovation and evolution of how we measure, read and use energy consumption data!
